    You know.

There comes a time, when you should just cut your losses. Betwixt the ages of say 15 and 18 I had an easy time with women. Since then bar , hmm, two , wait , maybe three girlfriends, it's been flings with random women.

Don't get me wrong, that can be really, really great. Eventually though, you get to realise that, you aren't going to meet that one. People keep telling you that you will, but, eventually, you realise with enough failed interpersonal-amourous scenarios, that, that is just something people say, and the reality of life doesn't bear out this particular attestation.

Don't get me wrong, I do get out, I do meet people, but the requisite 'aloofness' that makes women fancy you (and can't be faked) is never forthcoming with women I do fancy (because you can't be aloof, and in any case, playing games is for infants). The rather unfortunate corollary is that women I don't fancy sometimes fling themselves at me.

What can I do, pretend to fancy these women, when in fact I don't? No. Hold out for the women I do fancy (that never comes to fruition)?

It's interesting when you realise that you've been lying to yourself for years, believe in this 'love' nonsense, really, upon logical examination, it's a load of crap.

Then you realise that one of the things you have to compromise on, in order to not be alone, is being with one of these people you can have, even though, deep down you realise you don't want them.

When you look at the other reasons people get together with other people, money, property a desire to get ahead in their career, it seems a little infintile to lament the above 'realisation'. Such compromises have been made for generations of humanity and I personally think it is symptomatic of the culture we live in, that tells us, that Santa exists, that someday you'll find 'the one' and it will be wonderful, that you can eat, drunk and fuck without remourse or regret and none of this comes back to haunt you.

So, dear reader, I think I'm going to make that compromise and just settle for whats on offer, perhaps something better will come along, but, from where I sit, it would be better to pretend I was happy with somebody, then to be alone, spurned and constantly pining after impossible women.

I salute you, in your kulturekampf for prosperity and happiness.

    Oh and ah.

    Please don't forget to vote!

Love don't exist, and what most people call love is blinding infatuation, that beautiful rush of a selection of neurotransmitters... Yes love is like 'Santa' also(the lie, tut tut), never looked at it like that before.

"all you need is love" - The Beatles, they were probaly stoned while writing that. People need false hopes and a small mental room of self dellusion where they can craft self suited lie's. This is what helps people cope. For some its that God will protect them, for others its that there exists a true love, and everybody has a different lie for themselves. Its just something to hope for, but when you realise it does'nt exist its not fun.

You were told there was a Santa when you were a child, The East Bunny and whatelse, none of which exists, why should you believe them now? You were being set up for a fall all along, as was I and another few billion.

Just because you can't see it doesn't mean others don't.

Something about this smacks of potential troll, but...

Love is nonsense, if you think it is. There isn't any "actual" love - it's not tangiable. It's a feeling - and yes, unless you feel it being with someone is a compromise. It's all up to you, no one else.

    Anyway, enough Oprah-ing from me

Of course there's love, but quite a lot of people misunderstand it and are easily mislead into believing in it when there's ahuge chance it's shallow or false.

I feel that the famous 'There's one out there for everyone' statement is a steaming pile of dog **** on the sole of the boot of life. It's poetic nonsense.

So let me get this straight, some **** of a deity has branded us on the ass with numbers and codes that, when fed through the system of life, will plot our life out for us and set it in concrete in regards to how life goes, who we meet and who we end up with? Absolute bollocks. There are no rules in life other than the inevitable ending, so you have to go out there and get what you want.

If it's love you're after, then there's no point moping around and hoping it comes to your doorstep packed in silk and ribbons, but that doesn't meen that going out there and searching for it is going to come up with results either.

Live life the way you wish, and see what happens - Be yourself and don't change for anyone, unless of course you've already been refered to Ballinasloe Mental Institute for using fireworks up your neighbours dog's arse while hanging it over the fifth floor balcony of your apartment by it's balls with the use of apple flavoured liqourice strings and screaming 'QUALA HALLABOOYAH I ARE LOVVVVIN IOT!!'

I always thought an old fat guy, dressed up an a red suit giving presents to young children was a little pervy.

On one hand you have some guy getting a second degree nailing to a wooden cross, and somewhere down the line it gets mixed with the idea that his brith should be signified by the fairytale of some fat red wanker delivering presents down the HOLE of your chimney for your little kiddies...

They say never talk to strangers, or take sweets off strangers, yet they'll tell you that there's some fat loveable **** coming once a year who NOBODY has seen, and that HE'S allowed to tresspass in your home and give you sweets...

What where we talking about again!?

I believe in love more than I believe in space travel

.. I think you have to learn to love ... if you are waiting on 'the one' you'll be waiting a long time.. you got to learn to love one person ... then they'll probably turn out to be not what you thought ... or yous will break up... hense the person isn't the one... if you keep doing this .. and keep letting yourself fall in love ... eventually I think it won't end ... then that person is 'the one' ...

"if you learn to love then you might love life" -Beastie boys :D

... if you can't learn to love ... then life is going to suck for you.

    There you go.

What you should do, is settle for who you can have, even though, you really don't want them.

Arranged marriages were like this in the past. Prince would marry some girl he'd never met and they'd ..... learn, to pretend/convince themselves they were in love.

All those Julia Roberts films should be banned.... they give people false hope.

It's rather like how the film "The rules of Attraction ends".

    Guy-1 doesn't get girl.
    Girl doesn't get other guy-2.
    Gay-Gay doesn't get guy-1.
    Girl-pining-after-guy-1 kills herself.

Real life, not some manufactured "Runaway Bride/Pretty Woman" horseshit that were all brought up believing will really happen someday.

I want my money back... this film stinks !!!!

that is not what I mean't at all!!

I mean't that some people CAN'T fall in love ... they just don't have it in them... where others are constantly triping over themselves ... Romeo for example..

I mean't that you should try looking at all the good things in a person ... might turn out that you do actually fall in love with them instead of looking for the 'perfect' person ...

    nobody is perfect! ...

besides ... love takes time... you don't walk straight into it....

Yeah my parents would give you the same spiel... about love, happiness and finding the right one.

Oh the delicious irony of having divorcee parents tell you this.

    /Licks fingers.

Mnn, I thought the unreg poster was in fact you Typie. Smacked of your choice of language.

Personally, methinks there is love to be had by all. I dont subscribe to Types point of view that we merely settle for second best. Some do some dont. The ones that dont, usually end up blissfully happy. The ones that do settle for second best spend the rest of their lives regretting it.

A perfect solution to this would be if yourself and yer best mate could approach some sort of government appointed scheme whereby yer mate would be magically transformed into the most gorgeous sexy woman you had ever laid eyes on and bares no resemblance to your mate whatsoever. Added benefit is that they still share all your tastes and laugh at the same sorta stuff (including your farts) as well as having a healthy appreciation of their own new sex while drunk in the pub.

What a world it would be. Full of devoted best mates. Question would be who would change sex? Maybe it could be a cyclical thing few months on then swap. Any votes?

Then settle, do whatever the hell you want but you will pay the price eventually.

All my life my parents have never been happy with each other.

My mother it appears just settled for my father and has regretted it ever day of her life. Numerous times throughout my life she has told me about all these other guys that she should of stayed with. I have asked her does she love my father and she will never answer this question. She also recounted that she had cheated on my father before they had married. When she married my father she was around the age of forty, my father being ten years younger than her, she settled. My sister and I have paid the price for this. I don't know what it is like to have parents that love each other. I know people from other families and their parents do love each other and it shows in those people. I go home and it honestly feels like my parents have not spoken to each other in ages.

So settle, what have you got to loose eh.
Or just wait around and see what happens.

    A.
