Anyone know if ipod can record from an audio source (non-digital)?

In other words can I connect up an ipod to my mixer and record from vinyl the way I can with my minisdisc? Or can it only record from a PC/Mac source?

    thanks

No you can't, you'd need to hook up your mixer to a pc/laptop and then transfer the file to iPod.
I believe you can do that with the iRiver though.

    Ah sh ite, that's disappointing.

It's annoying the way manufacturers view music as either analogue or digital... they don't take into account you might want to record your vinyl to mp3. Even with my minidisc I can record analogue audio, but for some stupid reason cannot then transfer it to my pc as MP3 in order to burn it as a CD.

I'll just add a question to this.
A mate bought an ipod and wants to put about a hundred cd's onto it.
He heading to nepal at the end of the week to continue a round the world trip.

He has an apple computer aswell.
What does he have to do and how long for example would it take to put 100 songs or a 1000 or 5000 songs on it in this way?

Ripping a CD to iTunes should take about 5-10 minutes, depending on the computer. The main hassle will be swapping the CDs in and out, so with 100 CDs he can probably expect to spend the best part of a weekend at it.

Once the tracks have been ripped, however, the whole lot can be transferred to the iPod within minutes.
