i'm fairly new to holdem and was playing at a mate's house few weeks ago. in the showdown, lets say there is 2 players left and the community cards show 2 pair, say kings and queens.

if both player fill the fullhouse, each with a king in the hole, is the pot split as both players have identical best hands, or does it come down to who has the highest 'extra' card in the hole, eg say player A has King Jack and Player B had King 10, then player A wins ?

at the time i thought that it was a split pot and we both agreed on this.

    cheers,
    jAH

true dat, althought I've heard of people deciding such split pots by the suit of the card held in the hand, Spades>Hearts>Diamonds>Clubs

Then they are crazy, everyone should play the rules of the casinos, this way they are in for no suprises if they go.

Deciding such a pot with such ridicule is not poker. Poker is a game where you make the best possible 5 carded hand. Suits do not decide hand strength like in Bridge and other card games. If poker hands were decided by suits it would be a totally different game. Different skill attributes etc.
