Without a moon base, space exploration is dead, and with it, the future of humanity...

On a serious note i gotta agree with DMT. This planet is slowly dying, i just hope by the time we reach another we will have learned the error of our ways.

Also, there isn't a hope in hell of near light speed propulsion systems ever being developed if there's no ships in space that could actually be doing with them...

    So wait...

Are the "weapons of mass destruction" on Mars now?

thats true, we should take the attitude of our forefathers, that ill be long dead before the planet becomes a huge wasteland, and there is no fuel and acid rains from the sky and other sci-fi things

Because it's easier to explore the solar system from inside a gravity well ?

Very roughly it takes as much energy to get to the Moon as to Mars. This is because you can use aero-braking and parachutes on Mars but to get to the lunar surface plan on dedicating half your mass to fuel or they'll be naming a new crater after you.

In terms of delta vee, the Martian moons Phobos and Deimos are closer than the Moon, Mars and most Near Earth Asteroids. Their low density suggest they may be volatile rich. If so, their volatiles could be exported to the Earth Moon L1 point and other locations in near Earth space.

The thing preventing humans reaching Mars is that beyond Earth there is no Oxygen or foods to harvest in the space.

If god wanted us to go to mars he would have fastforwarded time to when we get there.

If anybody wants a watch a really good sci-fi movie that genuinely depricts what landing on another world would be like first explorers, watch Europa Report.

It definitely removes the whole 100% positive Carl Sagan starry eyed approach (though I love him) and replaces it with the unsettling but still wonderous view of the universe

They also do real science and act like the world class professionals they portray, basically they're competent
    at the worst of times
    change in the movie
