i am currently building a home studio, which will mostly be used for live demo recordings, i.e. all instruments miced up.i currently have a basic pro tools setup, using a mac, pro tools 4 and a 888 audio interface.the 888, has 8 analog inputs for the mics, but i believe that for best sound levels that i shud pick up a small studio console mixer, with 8 in/s and out/s + phantom power

im looking for nice mackie desk for a resonable price, or i have been told yamaha do another small model, can anyone please shed some light on my dim subject.

Hmm, home studios, an area I'm not fimiliar with. Gimme a couple of days and I'll ask a couple of people who are more knowledgable than me.

I just noticed I have no life. Cool :)

I bought a nice Behringer Desk for my studio. I know people don't like Behringer but this desk is actually quite nice. And it was resonably cheap.

    It's the MX2642A

    I'm afraid not.

But you can download the manual from the link above.
I had a look to see the prices on Thomann and they don't seem to be selling it anymore. But Behringer are still advertising it on their site.

It was about €300 when I bought it last year.

It has 8 Direct outs on the back. I use these to go straight into my 8 input soundcard via a 1/4 " multi core. I've never had any trouble. It's better then routing the channels to the buses as you get less noise generated.

When I bought it I actually bought a Behringer B1 mic with it too. Really nice warm and Cheap mic. I've done loads of acoustic guitar & vocal work with it, it's also nice as an ambient mic on a guitar cab with a SM57 close up.

I'm happy with my Behringer desk too, although it's generally accepted that the preamps are not as good as the Mackie pre-amps. They are about half the price though. musicians gear Usually have decent prices on behringer stuff. I've personally bought from them and had no problems.
