ntl London's efforts to ensure that Shakespeare's language reigns supreme here has to be admired for its sheer arrogance and cheek particularly in this year when Ireland holds the presidency of the council of ministers...........

This is the ideal moment to ensure that mainland Bruxelles eurocrat officials should and can improve their English thanks to ntl....... after a hard's day work in Dublin Castle go back to your hotel room and watch 15 English language channels. None of the nonsense you get in other European capitals even in the 'welcome ten in May' countries of multi-lingual television in the basic service for all.

As the now forgotten TV5 moves to its rightful(???) place all alone among the ntl God and soft porn channels in the digital package ntl obviously feel it's an opportune moment to dump all these funny language news bulletins....

Whatever happens in these countries is of no interest to Dubliners unless there is an Irish angle....... 'scandal of the Irishman who drank two glasses of wine and fell in the Seine/Tiber' and the like.

It's a funny old world...one of Europe's biggest cable services and the only one to ignore the fundamental difference between us....we all speak different languages.
Lucky old TG4 saved only because it is a 'must-carry' channel.

Surely the increaced capacity offered by digital means they can carry more (not less) continental channels

Having said that an FTV satellite system will give you over a hundred channels including six from Italy four from france over a dozen from Germany a couple from Luxembourg and one each from Spain and Portugal as well as a few from Greece, Poland, Scandanavia, Slovenia, Hungary, Romania, Czech rep etc

All for around the cost of a years subscription to NTL

According to NTL: 'Ireland' tv5 is
A French language channel offering news, interviews, drama and movies from renowned French film makers, bringing us closer to Europe.
    :D

Then shurley all 150 of their other channels would be
An insurmountable swell of Anglo Irish, British and American everything, designed to enslave us to the Anglo Saxon culture forever

My FTV system on a PC cost less than a years Digital NTL, Chorus or Sky...

I get approx 700+ Free To Air TV and approx 500+ Free to air Radio.

No shortage of foriegn languages (I counted 46 before I got fed up)

But the only FTA from Ireland is Sky News Ireland :)

No Irish, except on Radio (but only on 28.2E).

    Hi,

I too am fed up with NTL (useless, arrogant, overpriced numpty wasters that they are) and am interested in getting a FTA system setup at home. I have a SKY dish setup and a decent PC, can you tell me what you have added to get your system in place and where I can get the stuff.
    Thanks in advance
