i have a muvo 64mb as do two of my sisters but i'm ordring a muvo nx tomorrow.

fantastic little bit of kit tbh. they are small, simple, have brilliant battery life, sound excellent and double a a usb pen drive. an ipod may look like teh sexor and hold more songs than you could ever possibly listen to but the sheer ease of use and pocket size handiness of the muvo make it my music device of choice.

    - I have a Muvo NX. The 'old' 128MB does the job fine so I would advise most people to go for that, I sold mine for the NX for the mic option, which I find handy when I have an idea for one of my crap songs!

BTW anyone reading this looking for an MP3 player, get it on ebay or some other online place rather than Dixons etc. And make sure the packaging is marked 'gift' or else you'll lose most of your savings like I did(charged 36 yoyos import tax).

20GB Creative Zen (USB2). It's not a year old yet, but I could get a 60GB one for the same price now.

    i have a 60GB Creative Zen (USB2).

I strongly reccomend that no one buys this by the way, i have had every problem you could think of with it, from the remote stopping working every now and then to some tracks renaming themselves and jumping from different folders, after 1 week of getting it, all my songs dissappeared, i eventually found them in 1 album folder named completely wrong!

also had to reload the OS so many times it's rediculous. strongly don't reccommend!

Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen (20gb). The origional firewire version... i wish i had firewire. I only had one problem with it, and that was when i flashed the firmware, and disconneced it before it was finished. There was a problem with the origional models that you couldn;t then just reflash the firmware in. I sent it back, and got a free replacement. Other than that, perfect all the way.

Compact, can use it while excercising. Plus it should support Vorbis with a firmware upgrade.

    great little thing

I'm in the market for a nice lil MP3 player.

This Creative Muvo 128 sounds very interesting indeed.

For those who use it guys, roughly how many songs can you store on it? (granted Mp3 file size varies usually between 3.5 mb and 5mb.) But I would like to know from personal experiences?

I like the idea of it "doubling" as a USB key also.

    Good thread magick.....:D

I hope so. I did have one of these http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shopping/pages/buynexia.html

Really ugly but it suited me as I could use a spare 1Gb microdrive with it and it played WMA's. Sound was ok but the build quality was awful and I ended up sending it back after it broke.

I also have a 128Mb Mambo MusicDrive. Only plays MP3's but it was a freebie so can't complain.

That was the reason for going with the Creative Zen NX over the iPod - WMA playback

I have the Jukebox zen extra 60 gig. Lovely big screen, nice battery life and superior sound quality (vs ipod 40gb). It only cost me a small fortune too (€330 as opposed to the €500 ipod). No vat paid just in ase anyone asks about the price.

I have the iRiver IFP-390T (256MB). Use it while on the move, mostly when cycling to work. It's small, good sound and battery life is great. Well worth it.

30GB Jukebox Zen NX. I couldn't be happier with it and would recommend it to anyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 347 ✭✭Static

I bought the 30gb Zen NX and I love it :). Haven't had it very long though, but I haven't had any problems whatsoever. Also, creative delivered it the next day for free, so don't bother with komplett.

It's only 'flaw' is that it doesn't appear as a standard usb storage device in windows, but that's not a major thing. If you buy notmad explorer - http://www.redchairsoftware.com/notmad/, it installs a device that you can copy to and from, and it has tons of neat features, like setting up a streaming server on your PC from the zen, etc.

128 version holds about 30 songs with a decent encoding.

The only problem that I have with it is it does not fit in some USB ports because of the chunky casing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,084 ✭✭✭✭Stark

think you can get a usb extension cable that will sort that out for you, plus provide more convenient access if your usb port is round the back of your pc.

Yeah, but most shops rip you off for about a tenner, twelve quid. Marx computers, (if you call out to them to save postage) at http://www.marx-computers.com/ do a grand one for 3 euro.

I use my phone, its an Siemens SL45 and has 64Mb, and in my car I have a Dension MP3 player with a 120Gb hard drive in it (almost full at the moment!)

"The only problem that I have with it is it does not fit in some USB ports because of the chunky casing."

I presume it wont fit in on the front of the computer?

I have 10 USB 2.0 ports on my computer. 8 at the back, 2 at the front.

"120Gb hard drive in it (almost full at the moment!)"

    Great Idea. :D

Ok, ill let the thread get on with it..

I've got an I-River iGP100 (1.5GB). It holds about 300-400 songs, has an FM radio and is really compact. I picked it up from the US for around €200! It's working great for me.

My iriver ihp-120 should be arriving from amazon early next week :D(fingers crossed).
Can't wait. I'll let ye know what its like.

P.S Anyone know where I can get cheap laptop (2.5") hard disks?

    :ninja:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

Plus it should support Vorbis with a firmware upgrade

and watch your battery life plummet :( . Whilest vorbis is a better format than mp3 ( and arguably among the top 3 codecs qualitywise, competing well with aac etc) it takes more power to decode than mp3.

Basically newer formats are more processor intensive to decode, so it takes more juice from your battery. We can always hope for a battery breakthrough, were they discover some new wierd but extremely good battery mix, 1 years playing on an AA sized battery....

seker16 - if you think of upgrading a hard drive, it's not gonna work! they use difference hds

    was it from amazon.co.uk?

not sure but i heard that UK version players have problems with DC adaptop, not working or something(when you get it please let us know if it's true!)

i'm thinking of ordering iHP-120 but from american site, cause i want a black version, it will cost me about 360 euros but i don't know if i'll TAXED when i get it, any of you guys know if they'll 21% tax me on the player?

also i want to order MuVo NX but i'm gonna wait till they release 512MB version, i like IFP-390T but it's big(compared to NX) and expensive much more expensive!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

i believe that if you get your player giftwrapped, you won;t be taxed on it. Double checlk that, but i'm pretty sure about it.
