Just wondering if you could give us the name of some bands that do chilled out trippy music.

    Cheers,

Yeah, Sigur Ros. Garbage's "Version 2.0" can be quite calming too. If you can get your hands on the compilation "Cafe Del Mar Vol. 7" though, you're really in business.

My own personal favourite if I'm in need of calming is Morning White Dove by a band called One Dove. It was their only album and was released in the early 90s, but well a listen if it's still available.

    alrighty then... seriously.

"Ian Brown - Music Of The Spheres" and "Morcheeba - Charango" (the instrumental cd, mainly) are my 2 main chillout cd's at the moment

Orbital and FSOL (Future Sound of London) are good ambient electronic artists who haven't been mentioned yet. FSOL released one album using the alias Androgenous Amorphous and talk the biggest load of ****e in interviews but are quite good if you like that sort of thing.
Best orbital album is Middle of Nowhere imo.

Massive Attack are very good. I have heard that their most recent album is disappointing though the other 3 are very good. (this does not include 'No protection' which consists of inferior remixes).

I forgot about Atmospheres and Soundtracks. "An Ending" is one of my favourite calming tracks. "Music of the Spheres" by Ian Brown is also another great suggestion. You could also give some of the Lord of the Rings soundtracks ago - they're a great calming influence at times.

Boards of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children, imo the best chillout album around.
Both Lemon Jelly albums are pretty good too.

artefacts by plastikman is a really minimal dubby repetitive thing its really trippy but its quite hard to get your head around music thats so minimal... persevere and its worth it :twothumbs:

anything on ltj bukems labels is great chilly trippy stuff.. really mellow drum and bass with soulful emotional drops and washes of soothing atmospherics... pretty sexy stuff...

    Yeah, they were class indeed!

You should also check out the new Opeth album Damnation, if you want some more prog/jazz/acoustic orientated stuff, and dont have a fear of the Mellotron. Definetly very chilled indeed.

Also, I'm shocked nobody has suggested Godspeed You Black Emperor!

Or if you'd like to go for the whole neo-classical thing, I'd suggest Elend - Les Tenebres Du Dehors

And to top it all off, Ulver - Peridition City.
    You honestly cant go wrong.

Or if you want to try something with female vocals, along the same line, check out Star Of Ash... Very Ulver influenced.

err trippy calming music? M83? i dont think so somehow.. try their stable mates Cyann & Ben or Purple Confusion for much more sedate listening.

I don't know if I mentioned Christs' rather excellent Pylonesque EP.. v. Boards Of Canada type stuff.. actually played recently with Schneider TM in the Sugar Club.
