Tom Cruise possibility for Iron Man

Hmm, not sure how I feel about this tbh. Hated most of his films, but after seeing The Last Samurai, I know he can be good in an action film, and can play a complex character well, so not to unhappy if he gets it I suppose. Want to see how the Iron Man suit will look more than anything I suppose tbh.

Will the suit be based on modern technology and electronics, or will it stay true to the original and use the awesome power of transistors?

    *tee hee*

Yeah he could do it. He's already been seen in a mask and he can work that, think Vanilla Sky.

Tom Cruise attempting to be all deep and meaningful whilst playing Ironman. Why do I think that's gonna suck?

Is Tom Cruise not a bit small in stature to play a super hero?

Theres an Iron man video game due this year along with a new x-men, ff and a couple of others.

There's already been an Iron Man game on GBA in 2003 as well as previous outings on SNES & Gameboy.

Most Marvel comic to game adaptations suck anyway.

Tom Sellack is the only man who could do Tony Stark, yes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,126 ✭✭✭][cEMAN**

Well who else are you gonna get? I suppose Tom would be grand because of films like Mission impossible making him the hero, and Far and away from when he's drunk.

Plus tony has always been a charmer.

Tom Sellack? No. He's only good for the fact he's the only man to wear that type of moustache and get away with it - EVER!

Though in saying that I suppose you could TRY Nicholas Cage. He's been put forward for a few comic hero roles.

I'd prefer Tom Cruise over Nicholas Cage, mainly because Cage is better at playing slightly off centre characters, and his facial expressions suit that type of character as well, while Cruise at least as stated is the right age, a charmer, can play a drunk(apparantly, never seen it to back me up), and can play a character with some depth anyways from some of his films. Might just be me though.

It could be worse. At least David Hasselhoff isnt up for the role.:D

    Tom Cruise is a god

I can't think of anyone suitable. They should pick an unknown actor.

I saw 5 mins of Nick Fury: Agent of Shield before on RTE and wanted to kill myself for punishment.

As for an unknown actor, quite probably they should, but when 2 big name actors go up for the role, most directors don't have the stones to refuse and look for someone who's better suited for the role, especially if there unknown.

Nick Fury: Agent of Shield made me want to scratch my eyes out.

Never seen Nick Fury? Is it really that bad?

I wouldnt worry too much 'bout Tom's stature either, I mean if you have watched MI2 you'l see that Cruise almost matches the height of most of the bad guys in the movie when he's actually a hell of a lot smaller then all of them. I reckon he'l be able to pull off Tony really well...(except for maybe the tasche).

Chance are (with all the weapons and gadgets and stuff) the suit will probably end up being cg when its fully on,

Any idea if and who'l be going up for the role of the war machine? (cant remember his character name?!) Sammy J or maybe even the big dude from The Green Mile might be suitable?

yes nick furys movie sucked donkeyballs

You mean Michael Clarke Duncan. He was Kingpin in Daredevil also.

Thanks, I seem to be going through a phase where I forget to charge my brain at night...loosing much needed RAM.

But yeah thats the guy I was thinking of, if they even decide to have War Machine in it?

Apart from that article that TheSonOfBattles posted, has there been any other production news? I mean, how likely are we to see a repeat of what has happened with the latest Superman movie?

I think if done properbly then an Iron Man film could be very good.

I thought I stuck in a nightmare when I read that Justin Timberlake was a possibality for the next Superman. Turns out its true. Please God dont let it be.

<Comic Book Guy> Worst casting ever....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭AngelofFire

I think an iron man movie could potentialy be the best marvel comic book adaptation. we`ve got Iron man whos a very believable superhero in contrast to others like the fantastic four and superman. Tom cruise would be perfect for the role.
A good nemesis would be ED harris or anthony hopkins.

Im gonna get shot for saying this...

but as much as i hate the guy, timberlake might juts be a ble to pull it off, i mean he's got the voice over thing covered in several games, and he didnt do THAT badly at the Matrix piss take on MTV...

I dont see how they could cast him in the role of starke though...i mean cruise could pull off a likeness, but i mean the voice and looks would be totaly out of char.. i mean imagine justin with a tasche?!

Could Viggo Mort Aragon from LOTR not do it he'd be a good Tony Stark

OK i'll agree he didn't do too bad in the matrix piss take, but as long as it's not Superman coming out with "Yo Lois fo shizzle my bizzle"

    "Peace out Supes!"

I dunno...now that you mention it... justin doing a piss take on superman would be pretty funny to watch

scary enough as it was to hear that they're considering putting Tom Cruise in as Tony Stark, I read recently that Leonardo di Crappio is "annoyed" at the fact that Cruise is being considered for the role over him.

Someone just kill me now. Could we not just have an unknown play the part, rather than a "look, it's this famous actor pretending to be tony stark" film?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,126 ✭✭✭][cEMAN**

"Look it's Patrick Stewart pretending to be Charles Xavier"

Yet he pulled that off nicely!!!

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,107 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

Well, yes...but there's a big difference between Patrick Stewart, who's generally not that hugely famous for blockbuster movies of a non-sci-fi nature, and Tom "Top Gun and a Cocktail" Cruise...

Besides which there's the more important difference that Patrick Stewart is a decent actor. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,126 ✭✭✭][cEMAN**

Considering that I was such a huge fan of TNG while it was running, and an even bigger fan of patrick Stewart through that (traced back and found a few films he had been in such as Dune etc), if I could believe him to be Xavier, I think then it should be an easy task for Tom Cruise (who is tbh a very good actor) to step into the role of Tony Stark

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,107 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

It would be possible, yes. But I've never found Cruise to have much range as an actor, certainly nothing comparable to Stewart, and the likeness between Xavier's character and Patrick Stewart in terms of appearance is much closer to my mind that that between Cruise and Stark.

I dunno...I mean, the original Punisher movie wasn't very good, but it was an unknown actor iirc. Tom Cruise is in the same category of actors as Brad Pitt (although I rate Pitt the better of the two) in that their fame has gotten to the stage that there's a lot of suspension of disbelief required when they play a character, simply because they are household names and faces.

Perhaps it's just me - I don't think Cruise could do Tony Stark as anything other than that ridiculous version they had in the 70's, which was Stark as The Big Businessman With A Heart (who was about as convincing as a chocolate kettle, I might add). Whereas for Stark to be interesting, there has to be some sort of nasty side to him (and, while his battles with alcohol and neurodegenerative diseases etc were interesting ideas, they never seemed to fully bloom into proper storylines for me).
