I have now tried two different brands of 800mb cdr and had the same problem with both, Xp still shows an empty disc as having 700mb of free space.

    Windows is fully updated.
Samsung SM352B CD drive has latest firmware.
    Other details: Xp2400, Shuttle Sn45g, 512 ddr 2700.

I am well aware that Nero will allow me to overburn a 700mb disc but I would rather have the disc size reported correctly in the first place.

    Any ideas anyone?

I have no problem with overburning discs. What bothers me is why should putting 760mb onto a 800mb disc be overburning it?

Is there any way to make windows recognise the true capacity of the disc?
