Rumour has it that Roman Abromovich is set to buy Jordan for 270 million yoyos. Motorsport is apparently his first love, and with reported advances on Sauber and Minardi being rejected, Jordan is his new target. Four secret meeting with Eddie in the last four weeks, if reports are to believed. He will supposedly bring in the best technicians, drivers and whatnot should he buy the team.

An injection of cash could turn the Jordan team around. We saw how competitive a team they were in 1999 when everything seemed to go right for them (apart from Damon's poor showing) so we know they're capable of a lot better than what we've seen these past seasons.
Here's to seeing a few Jordan podiums this year!!

Chelsea's Russian owner Roman Abramovich has no plans to buy the Jordan F1 motor racing team, his spokesman said on Tuesday. Media reports have linked the Russian billionaire with Eddie Jordan's team but Abramovich's spokesman John Mann denied the speculation, saying "There is nothing in this".

"At the moment Roman is being linked with bids to buy anything from a shopping centre to another football team.

"When anything is up for sale his name is being connected with it and it gets a little nasty after a time," he added. "It is true that Roman enjoys F1 and has met Eddie several times but that's it.

"Roman has also met with (Formula One chief) Bernie Ecclestone but that doesn't mean he is going to buy his house.

"We just want to lay all these rumours to rest."

Since taking over Chelsea last year Abramovich has spent more than £100 million on new players in a bid to win the premier league title.

Jordan are the only Formula One team with no confirmed drivers for the new season starting in Australia in March and are waiting for sponsorship deals to slot into place before making any announcement about their 2004 line-up.

Abramovich has also been linked in past media speculation to struggling Minardi and Sauber, the remaining privately-owned teams in a sport dominated by major car manufacturers.

    Real Pity.

i'd like to see bucket loads of cash flow into jordan because we need more teams at the top challenging the likes of ferrari. also jordan has irish connections and it'd be nice to have something irish (or somewhat irish) up there..

Yeah, what a season '99 was with both Jordan and Irvine winning races almost regularly!

I wouldn't have said "regularly" but was still a damn fine season! :D HHF was 3rd in drivers championship that year, I think.

If Damon could've scored a few podiums that year Jordan would've looked even better. Still, great achievement to come 3rd in championship with only one points-scoring driver.
If Jordan could just beat Sauber and Minardi this year, and match Jaguar, BAR and the Toyotas it would be a great season for them, and help set them up for 5th or even 4th place in the championship for '05.

Not a chance. Engine in the back is still going to be a year behind the rest and its a ford and the aero ain't going to be anything special because the air tunnel is out of date, even if there was an injection of cash, 2 or 3 seasons to turn around at least. Look how long it took Williams to get competitive again and they have 3/4 times the budget of jordan.

jordan will most likely have the same spec engine as jaguar this year.. so any performances like last year will be down to poor aerodynamics/terrible drivers.

    They certainly will.

Thought the deal was that they were getting last seasons engine?

Think that was it. So dunno why EJ was hopping about when he got it. They need the Mercedes power, but by the time there's a chance for that, :dunno:, we'll be racing Minardi's year in year out. Bah.

€25m+ to buy them out of their Ford contract. Abromovich would be a total fool to invest any money in F1. As a long..long time fanatic of F1 i can unfortunately see the sport on the verge of financial collapse.

Its a complete farce that you can drop €100m+ into a racing team & be absolutely no where like Jag or even Mclaren of Willaims where anything but 1st place is failure.

The racing has been completely diluted and now i watch more out of habbit rather than interest. The politics is even more secret and the only interesting element of F1 these days is the technicals and sometimes the business but most of it so secret that its more interest out of speculation than anything else.

All things change but F1 has changed for the worst and maybe a complete collapse might be for the best.
