Service - or the lack thereof ...

Its funny - before I came to Ireland I thought there could be no place as bad as South Africa for service. Man - I was soo wong.

Please dont get me wrong - this is not a racial or otherwise statement. I am just so frustrated.

If it isnt the banks, its motor dealerships. If its not them, its the insurance people.
I am looking to buy a NEW Yamaha WR450F. It costs good money - exactly - I cant tell you as I simply cannot get hold of a dealer - or someone that can call me back with a price.

Heres the deal. I have cash to spend - and no one wants it. Ever wondered how companies make a living?

This country attracts administration, red tape, and any other amount of unwanted inefficiency like a black hole.

and most of time the people you deal with wont personally see any of the money your tryin to spend, and so they couldn't be arsed.

Spot on. When you ring up a call center, do you really think the people you talk to give a flying fcuk? Of course not - they're not going to be paid much. It's their Overlords who reap in all the cash and dine on live babies as they drive to work in a limited edition diamond encrusted Jaguar. The ones you and I talk to couldn't give a fcuk.

As to red tape - well this is why I want to employ Gordon Gecko. Take him into all those large coroporations bogged down by red-tape (civil service - I'm looking at you!) and smash it apart, moulding it into an effecient operation.

As to how to get your bike - grit your teeth, bang your head against the wall, and summon a reserve of patience...

Ah , it could be worse , we could be expcted to work hard , and efficiently , and then where would we be? , I like the pace of things round here and the fact that every large business transaction is a social engagement.

Funny, when I went to SA, my thoughts on service over there ran along the lines of "not great but better than home". It's been about five years since I was there and service in Ireland appears to have become steadily worse since. I'm a nice customer, I don't act as if I'm better than the person serving me so I'm damned if I can figure out why some of them think they're more important than their customers.

Perhaps people are injected with some sort of stupidity drug as part of the promotion to manager?

Everyone (well not quite) buys their motor in January, so you picked the wong time to buy. Part of the problem is all markets are overheated - yes you have cash, but so does everyone else.

Well, I'm sure it isn't a gene that automatically kicks in on a promotion:D but the Peter Principle (as outlined by Laurence J Peter long before Dilbert came along) certainly comes into play.

    Not so with bikes, Victor.
Springtime is when lots of bikes are bought and sold.

I've worked in a call centre before and it's not a pretty job. It's emotionally exhausting, listening to people rant down the phone to you, trying to punch their information into an antiquated system. Most of our time was spent powerlessly trying to deal with complaints that were no fault of our own, but due to "red tape" etc. higher up. Of course those higher up people didn't have to deal directly with the customer so there was no incentive for them to improve things.

In short, be nice to the call centre people.

Does it matter? All I am trying to do is spend money with a seller - basic business principles apply.
