Boards boating trip!

I just had a rather spiffing thought while reading the Aircraft carrier thread...

Now obviously, boards isn't going to get an aircraft carrier, and the uses boards would have for it, would be rather limited to say the least.

But, a small boat! Why that would be great! Imagine we got hold of a small yatch or something for a couple of days. Think what we could do with it! We could go sailing, and drink an extraordinary amount of alcohol, go fishing, and generally have a massive boards party, on the ocean! I'm sure if a load of us boardsters chipped in enough, we'd be able to rent a boat of some sort.

So, would anyone here know of the feasability of such a boards trip?

You would be better going along the lines of chartering a boat because you won't find anyone willing to hand over their boat especially if it is a cruiser or something like that you can bet your bottom dollar that they would be comming along to skipper the boat and to ensure it doesn't get thrashed, crashed or sunk. Now I have alot of contacts in this area and if we can get an idea on numbers and what you want to do fishing, diving ect. Another thing you should be aware of is that alcohol is generally not permitted for obvious safety reasons although in some cases it is. so you really need to think about this.

    Two possible other solutions are
1, Booze cruise to holyhead and back, (lets face it it gets boring after the fifth time)
2, Go on the shannon, Lots of fun and you can drink all you want but it may have to wait until the summer.

I can see it now...x people from an internet community drown off the coast off x.

    hmmm.

naah I'll take mickey joe's advice on water safety on this one.

but I heard that those boat trips down the shannon are pretty good for smaller numbers of people. you rent a barge or someat...

Boat trips on the Shannon are great...
You could hire a barge, they tend to be bigger than the cruisers and would thus hold more drinkers. You're better off waiting for the Summer though as it's not pleasant at this time of year, the weather could get pretty shi[/]tty on you very suddenly.

Im with bug and Amz on this one, Not really a good idea to head out into open sea unless most (and id almost recomend all) the people onboard new the basics about sea survival/sailing and emergency's at sea etc, however a trip on the shannon sounds like a good laugh id be on for that in the summer deff.

I took a cruiser on the shannon for a week there a year or two ago .... pretty sweet, we only had a small boat (2 berth) but you can get massive 8 - 10 berth ones..... Hmmm a week hire is 950 Euro for an 8 berth boat...... Most double beds. I cant find anywhere at the moment that does day Hires.

I did a weekend on a 8/10 berth on the shannon. Really good fun and we hit loads of stuff, mainly bridges because it was soooo big.

Well then it seems like a cruise on the shannon seems the most popular choice!
this summer maybe and i do like sarky's idea of pirates we can keel haul muppets and make flamers walk the plank.

So, a boat trip down the shannon in the summer is the best bet?
    Sounds like a plan!

Anyone know how much it would be for such a boat trip?
Probably cheaper than a yatch or somesuchthing, I'd imagine.
