Christmas Crisis, need some information

    Hi all

I was wondering if anyone can help with a bit of a Christmas crisis. I ordered a camera from www.ny-camera.com on December the 4th. A few days before that I enquired with NY-camera if the camera was in stock and if I ordered now then would I have it in time for Christmas (present for girlfriend). Anyway, I was told yes on both accounts. I ordered the camera and awaited arrival. On the 10th I contacted them via email asking if shipping should take this long. The reply I got stated the following

“We are concerned about the parcel but let us wait until the end of the next week. Only then we can start a research for the parcel. . Let us know if the parcel has reached you or not.”

I waited until the 16th and outlined the parcel still hadn’t arrived and still wasn’t getting any useful information from them.

I started ringing them on the 18th and was told that they held high hopes for the package arriving before Christmas. However, they could not base these hopes and any concrete information. They outlined that they wanted to wait until today (22nd) to start a “search” for the parcel which would take a few days. This was not good enough and I demanded that the package be located ASAP. I was informed that this could not be done!

I did my own investigation for the package on Friday and found that they send the packages by Deutsche Post which issued a tracking number. However, once the package is sent overseas (it left Cologne in Germany on the 6th at 1am) it’s given a different tracking number but the Deutsche post don’t know that number (they say that as it wasn’t a Premium package they don’t keep a record once it’s left). SDS who get the package don’t keep records of the Deutsche Post numbers so they can’t tell what has happened to the package as I don’t have the Irish tracking number.

My question is this, what responsibly should NY-cameras take in this matter? They are basically saying they are trying to locate it but don’t seem to be acting with any great sense of urgency. Are they responsible for the package and I’m I in a position to ask that they refund my money until the package arrives? Can I ask that they refund my money so that I can get the present in the shop here in time for Christmas?

Finally, given the ludicrous tracking workflow that Deutsche Post and SDS seem to be using is there anyone or any company that I can ring that can find the package for me??

Any help or support is greatly appreciated.

all i can say that will be of help to you is that untill you sign for it, its the responsibility of the website you ordered it from. so its not like if it dosent turn up, u wont get your money back. not much consolation, i know,

You paid with a credit card? Ring up the CC company and let them know about the problem. They can block the charge. Also let the shop know and they'll get the skates on pretty quickly. 3 weeks is a bit too long.

In Ireland, you're complaint is with the seller. It is irrelevant that a few different courier companies are involved. There has been some comment recently about the change in handling of air parcel post from US to Europe. An Post used to have some contract with the US postal service but don't any more. This means parcels from the US come to Ireland via Germany and there is a 'handling charge' of E 9.50 And this company will also declare the value to Customs which will mean higher charges again.

The international law on buying online is vague but IIRC there is work being done on drafting something. But threatening to deny payment on your credit card should get things rolling. You've no proof that they've sent things on...

Doesn't look good. Have immediate chat with credit card company.

Check with the manufacturer of the camera if these guys are authorised agants or the like.

The URL works fine now. I wouldn't have too many concerns for the company - they are a reputable dealer, and many here have bought from them in the past without any problems. Not that it helps your situation!

I'd say cancel the payment..... just to cover your back, cause they don't seemt o know what's going on.
