I have got myself an Echostar AD3600 receiver (bought from a friend who got it as an unwanted present).

I now have 1 Irish Skybox, 1 UK skybox with FTA card and the Echostar. I have a quad lnb on my skydish. I am running out of scart sockets. My TV has 2 sockets. My Irish skybox is connected to one and the UK box connects to the other. I also have a DVD player. Is there such a thing as a multi-scart box to which I can connect all the boxes with just one lead going to the TV. And if so how would I switch between the different receivers. Does this make sense?

Problem 2. As I only have a sky dish I have been playing about with the Echostar by connecting it to 28.2E. The receiver only seems to see one Astra satellite, just called Astra 2). I can't access any BBC channels for example. Do I need to upgrade the Echostar software. It is on V2.2. Or can I just enter a new satellite such as Hotbird at 28.5E.

Pronlem 3. (Maybe one for Tony). Hopefully after Christmas I will invest in a steerable dish and motor so I can exploit the Echostar to it's full potential. Can u recommend a good dish and motor and do I need anything else. Would 1m dish be sufficient? or do I need more. I live in Drogheda.

Sorry about going on and thanks for any help in advance.

    Ref. Prob 2:

BBC is on this frequency as shown here - so you should be able to pick it up. Maybe you should do an advanced search for it using the transponder info on that webpage.

    hth.

Thanks for your reply. However when I scan Astra2 (which seems to the the only satellite available on the Echostar menu at 28.2E) it seems to ignoe 10773mhz.

Prob 2, you need to add transponders as they are not in the database

prob 3 . you need a dish, polar mount and actuator(motor), triax is a good brand but there are others just as good.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks guys for your help.

I need to find a null modem cable to load the new software and Tony I have just figured how how to add Satellites and transponders. It's a complicated receiver.

    Thanks again

Most serial Printer cables also work as Null Modem cables, given suitable adaptor connections.

the cable that WONT work is ANY cable for an Actual Modem.

Null means "none", it is a cross over serial cable that was used to connect two PCs direct without the intervening modems (Modems use a straight wired cable).

Note that pin 2 and 3 on a 9 pin connector has the opposite functions to pin2 an 3 on a 25 pin connector as the 9pin has not just less pins, but a completley different pin out.

I was looking for null modem cable to update my Manhattan as they dont' do OTA updates. I have the new software on my PC (main update was fixed W/S switching) but can't transfer to my receiver as yet. I have found the relevant cables but are very expensive where I've looked. :/
