I was hiking in the comeragh mts. on a wet day, we came to a steep area and we decided to make our ways around it..

we were pretty high after a while and there was a long way down the the valley with lots of rock out croppings, john was ten - twenty feet above me when he slipped and started to slide down the wet grass towards the bottom, quick thinking got me slide down to nearby rocks and catch him by the jumper in an attempt to hold him...it worked.....

god only knows what could have happened if i didnt catch him

I have given blood numerous times, and I donate time/money every year to feed the hungry and assist the "Help a Family" program our hospital does every year at Christmas.

Out of every one of my checks I have transferred money to help an orginazition locally known as RoseHaven. It is a program that helps Abused mothers and childern.

As far, as anything physical like knocking a robber out with my 40 pound pocketbook....UmmmNo...Sorry Never done anything like that!

I'd give blood but I'm not allowed but the fact that I *would* give blood counts just as much and therefore I'm as good as the rest of you.

was walking to the bus the other morning, guy in front of me dropped his roll. i picked it up and returned it to him.. ... take that evildoers

A woman walking in front of me dropped her wallet. She was very grateful when I gave it back.

Seriously though, I saw a girl up the road getting her bag nicked and I didn't do anything. I could have given her my phone to call the police, I could have chased after the guy (I'm a martial artist and I should be able to handle a situation like that), I could have done any number of things to help but I couldn't think of anything at the time so I ended up walking on. I feel very bad about doing that, I'm ashamed of myself, so I have since resolved to do what I can if I ever come across a situation like that again.

I'm not allowed give blood for a year (well now have only 6 months left), but give regularly otherwise.

Would never want credit for I do in an emergency situation, its just what you do that counts. Not the glory. I am always embaressed everytime I have exiting news because I think I'm gloating when I tell people.

one night these 4 idiots tried to break into our bar, their idiots coz even though it was 4:30 in the morning, every light was on and we were all up, (twas my aunts 40th)

anywhoo i grabbed my poking stick (a 3 1/2'' rounded piece of ash:D ) and gave chase, i caught up with one and smaked him right on the back-side of his right knee, i heard a crack and he fell like a sack o spuds. screaming like a baby

then i sat on him for 15 mins while the cops arrived. the rest were caught too, and we all lived happily ever after.

1985-Childhood friend and his brother left their bikes in the middle of the green while they had their tea. Saw 2 85' era skangers eyeing up the bikes. Went to stop them nicking the bikes and got a dig for my troubles. No thank you from the friend or his parents for trying to prevent the bikes being stolen.

1986- Same childhood friend and I are 30ft up a tree. (Tree climbing, those were the days, you don't see kids climbing trees anymore.........) Branch gives way under friends feet and he is left hanging 30ft off the ground by his fingertips. He is screaming his lungs out but I remained calm and grabbed hold of his arm. I was only a wee lad and didn't have the strength to pull him up but persuaded him to swing his legs up around the branch. Anyway to cut a long story short, I probably saved his life........No thank you from the friend or his parents. Should have dropped the ungrateful effer!! :D:D

1994-I happened to be in the family shop after a game of ten pin bowling when two scumbags burst in, one brandishing a gun (turned out to be an imitation, but a real good one like you would buy on the internet rather than a pink plastic jobby from Toys 'R' Us :D ). Dad swung a big heavy stick 'that just happened to be behind the counter' and I....................Swing my 14LB bowling ball/bag by the strap and hit the guy with the gun between the shoulder blades nearly knocking him over the counter. He dropped the gun and he and his mate ran out. I like to think I was brave rather then stupid! :D:D

I'd like to think it was a great deal of both at the same time...Esp. since you didn't known at the time it was a fake gun!

Well I'm brave in that I go to work each day, faced with the crushing knowledge of the eventual heat death of the universe, and then - after that - the energy death when all live and every particle in existence becomes absolutely nothing.

pffft! I would like to propose an "everyday supervillian" thread where people can instead brag about the important things- like inflicting misery on their fellow man.

He coulda gotten a tattoo...you can't give blood here in the states for one year afterwards???:confused::confused::confused:
There are many things such as medical injections that could cause you to be turned away from the blood bank......I'm so confused..

Faust...I demand you get back in here and clear this confusion of your posts.... :D

Isn't there also a limit on giving blood if you got a piercing recently? And the type of piercing also affects the length of time you have to wait?

And if you had say jaundice, you also can't give blood? And active gay or bi men can't also give blood ever? They're quite strict on what they let in and don't let in.

I think they near rule out everyone... "In theory, anyone can donate blood " ... but:

    Rules
Who is eligible to donate blood?
In theory, anyone can donate blood but there are certain groups who should not. All donated blood is tested before it is given to patients.

You should never donate blood if you are in one of the following groups:

You are a male who has had sex with another male
You have ever used a needle to take drugs of any kind
You or your partner is HIV positive
You have had jaundice after the age of 13 years or you contracted jaundice under the age of 13 years that was caused by Hepatitis B or C
You have lived in the UK for 5 or more years between 1980 and 1996 (this is to protect against any risk of vCJD transmission via blood).
You should not donate blood for 12 months if:

You have visited a Malarial Area
You have had any part of your body pierced
    You have had a tattoo
You received acupuncture by a non-medically registered practitioner
You gave birth to a baby
    You received a blood transfusion.
You should not donate blood for 6 months if you have had major surgery or you have visited a tropical area.

You should not donate blood for 1 month if you have had contact with infectious diseases (where you have not been previously infected), e.g., chicken pox, mumps, measles or German measles.

You should not donate blood for 2 weeks if you have recently recovered from the flu or have just completed a course of antibiotics.

You should not donate blood for 1 week if you have a cold sore, a cold or an uncomplicated dental extraction or have been on short-term medication.

In addition to this I was told that you have to be over 8 stone.

:D That's hilarious. They've virtually managed to rule out women there, with the 'baby' and 'piercings' rule. I appreciate that they have to be careful, but that's madness.

Thats only for 12 months after having the baby.

Me, I've chased a mugger (he had a getaway vehicle and driver ) and found two burglars in the basement at work (chased 'em down the street carrying a carpenters hammer - never seen two people so motivated to move) and I've made a fair few 999 calls.
