Formating Dates in Excel

I have a list of dates in Excel like:
    21/11/02
and I want to format them as:

    21-Nov-02

But - It is not working for me. Formating does not seem to work on these cells.

Perhaps the list of dates I have are text.

But Excel does not seem to be converting them to date format.

I have tried "Paste Special" as well.

Will I have to input the dates manually?

Perhaps they are. Try clicking on one of the cells then going to Format, Cells and see what is highlighted in there by default. If it's "text" come back and tell us

If it isn't "text" then it should work by clicking Format, Cells, Date and selecting a different format.

"Paste Special" has nothing to do with either your problem or its solution so you can stop doing that.
