I want to connect three sat feeds and three terrestial feeds using a 6-way splitter/combiner (f-type) and two VHF feeds using a 2-way I have seen splitters on the following site

    http://www.brymar.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Combiners_Diplexers_and_Attenuators_14.html

6 way Splitter for UHF / FM
2 way Splitter UHF / FM

Can these be used as combimers?

Also thinking of connecting my computer to my distribution network using a video sender one at computer one in attic and using a modulator to convert the signal to rf to tune on all tvs, would this work?

I've wondered where Watty has gone??? Has anyone heard anything?? I might sent it a card!!!:confused::confused:

Well, according to his last post back in October, the following was in his sig:
I really must get a life and spend less time here

    He must have succeeded! :)

It's a shame he's not around, he's a font of knowledge on this type of thing. Unfortunately I can't help.

When you say you've three sat feeds, do you mean three dishes, or three LNB's on one dish ? You can combine three LNB's onto one downlead easily, though you can only use one at a time - a distribution system giving three seperate feeds for distribution, with both polarities at each outlet is getting into the realms of very specialist installation.

    If theory maybe..
I've not tired it but you should be able to put TV FM and SAT down one cable and use the same type of splitter at the other end to split them again.

You could probably put a TV link on it too. (Hmmm 10Base...) But it better if you use separate cables

OK SAT - one cable from Receiver to output of DISEC Box - with 4 inputs - receiver must be able to send DISEC signals.

TV - you can't mix signals from the same BAND. you can get funny inteference from 4 and 9 channels away (can't remember the numbers - but main point is that it is not just adjacent channels that can cause problems) Also the more devices it goes through - each adds a little noise to the signal.

3 terrestesterial feeds ??? usually it's UHF and VHF - different bands - might get away with it on UHF if you are using aerials from different bands..

Generally you put the devices in series rather than parallel - eg: Aerial -->Sat(eg SKY) ---> CCTV camera --> Video --> TV

The problem with the RF outputs on most devices is they amplify all channels - so you can't have a loop - also you need your video recorder just before the TV else you can't record stuff

You're probably gonna need something like this :
    http://www.brymar.co.uk/acatalog/Satellite_Distribution_Soloutions.html

I've got one (different brand) that takes four outputs from an LNB and (until I got rid of it) a cable tv (NTL) feed. This is distributed around the house and I use the 3-way splitters at each point in the house to separate out satellite/tv/radio.

I have an old Sky digibox permanently on Channel4 (using a UK FTA card) and the RF output of that is connected into the UHF input.

    works really well.

you didn't say if one of the systems was Sky - afaik that'll make a difference.

Watty VERY busy writing SW. Also mutated at 1500 posts.

When Mild mannered LurkingIcon takes of glasses he look amazingly like Watty.

He also look very similar with glasses on too.

    It's nice to be missed

Any splitter, except amplified ones work as combiners.

Cheap splitters have resistors which lose more signal. The splitter with a little coil in it (hybrid) loses 6dB to each port on splitting (since signal must be 1/2 each port = 6dB, but less than 0.5dB loss combining. Resistor splitters can lose even 6dB used as combiners and 12dB as splitters.

You can't combine LNB feeds at all, only the RF out modulator of satellite receiver.

I have 2 analog Sat, 1 digibox, 1 PC sat via external modulator, TV aerial and S-VHS all combined to feed all TVs via 4 way amp and splitters on some amp outputs.

Some boxes are "daisy chained" via the RF in and RF out which have amplified combiners inside them.

One satellite receiver has a 4 way Disqc switch with 4 LNBs. I did have a 3 way switch operated by Digibox SCART signals. www.satcure.couk sells LNB switches for Digibox, mine was a home made affair in a 3 way F-Connector spliiter box with inside replaced by two minature SPC0 relays. A litte 2 transistor circuit "amplified" (buffered) the Digibox SCART control wires to drive the relays via a telephone wire run out to the dish. 9V power was from the TV distribution amp.

You can combine various RF outputs in a splitter / combiner - But since most of those boxes Analog Sat / Security Cam may have a pass through input - it's probably best to put some sort of plug on it's RF input - not sure if best to use a 75 ohm resistor or just short it out. The idea is to prevent stray signals being amplified.
