Can anyone give some links to run ASF files on OSX?

Tried MS Mplayer to no avail. Is there a program to view or convert to a usuable format? is it possible to edit it in imovie?

AFAIK, the video is in MPEG4 format or possibly an MS specific rip on it.

    any ideas?

Actually QT played them for me years ago, but then stopped and I haven't been able to play them since. only thing I would suggest is to try out some shareware sites or tucows and find an app that supports it.

Don't know what the problem is - I can watch .asf porn dead easy with my MS player for OSX.

Yeah the latest version of Windows media player for OS X seems to have no problem playing back most stuff. Perhaps you have the previous release, it was...limited.

the vids are from a digital camcorder. it records in asf, but even the latest media player refuses to play it on Mac. Runs fine on PC, but this guy has a Mac.

Would it be possible to get a burned DVD of the asf from PC to give to the guy?

Also, have you tried another Mac user's Mac?

If the content is work safe, try taking it into a Mac shop and sticking it in one of their Macs maybe?

Otherwise, maybe some sort of PC program that can convert asf files into some other format would be your only bet...

Oh, imovie won't do that for you, and probably Final Cut Pro won't even do it either.

yea, the DVD is a good suggestion, the problem is that he wants to loose as little pre-processing quality as possible

Then burn it as data instead of dvd video, and the sometimes shocking quality it seems to have (especially when it hits 42' plasma screens)

    Just use mplayerosx:

    http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net

It's really good. It can understand most file formats and can handle most codecs as well. It does asf happily enough. Short of that, VLC is also pretty good.
