If possible, talk to the staff at your gym and get them to take you through some exercises. It's very important to learn how to lift weights properly. Almost all weight lifting is pretty safe if you are doing right, and pretty dangerous if you're doing it wrong.

It's very handy to have someone watch you at the start, because they can see mistakes that you are making that you simply can't see. In fairness, that's what gym staff are there for.

decide if if you want to build up or tone your body. You can do light weights for toning and heavier ones for muscle mass.
Ask a gym instructor to give you a program but make sure you tell them whhat your goal is so they can tailor a program specifically for you

    good luck

btw if you are a vhi member there is a website that gives you a tailored workout. You just feed in your details, height, weight, and physical problems(four eyes, six fingers etc.)

Theres a quit smoking plan and a diet thing aswell.

I couldn't be arsed personally, I'd rather just go down meself, get a decent program off the instructors and go from there.

One thing: Don't expect too much from yerself when you start. If you put too much pressure on yourelf, you'll get pissed off with it and make a chore out of it. Take it easy and concentrate on doing the exercises correctly before upping the weights.
