Can anybody tell me why all hatchback cars have rear window wipers and all saloon cars don't. I drive a saloon and it really bugs me that I don't have a rear wiper on rainy days............

It's to do with aerodynamics. Most saloons don't need a rear wiper because they have a smaller rear window which is at a steeper angle to the rest of the car, so dirt and rain doesn't get stuck on it as much. A hatchback has a large more sloped rear window, which means that there's more space for rain and dirt to pile up on.

Hatchbacks, having the back window nearer the rear wheels have a tendency to collect all the dirty spray that cars tend to throw when its raining or snowing . Conversly saloons having a boot dont have this problem. having said that should this post not be on the motors forum? where Iam sure you would get a better response
