Nope not at all actually. Just something I've wanted to try for years.

I wouldn't mind trying those out, but I'm worried that the people before me would have peed in the tank.

So your saying finding pee in the water may well be the least of his problems?

I'm interested in hearing how this goes though. Not very cheap either is it?

There was some film with William Hurt, where he ate a cactus or licked a frog (done that myself), got into a floatation tank and regressed to some sort of primal state.

    Very arty I thought.

Did it once. There was (is?) one in the Iveagh fitness centre.

Different but enjoyable experince. Mind wandered well, the very little sensations were magnified. The best description was like a waking dream, but with more lucid direction:D

Very relaxing - possibly the most relaxing thing I've done

I haven't done it again, but mainly because I don't use the gym anymore, and while the experience was good, it wasn't good enough to go mad on.

But I suppose your mileage will vary.

It's an experience, but nothing "magical". I find a straight forward theraputic massage is better.

The water is filtered after every use and has such a high concentration of epsom salt it kills everything anyway.

Make sure they don't screw up your appointment time ("good staff are so difficult to get these days").

I'm going the day after the Boards Beers. I got 2 sessions for €65 with a voucher and get 20% off their other "services".

The water is highly filtered like Victor said and the Epsom Salts kill everything while making your skin and hair nice and soft.

And its not the equiv of lying in a bath with the lights off. The water is the same temp as body temp so after a while you don't feel it. Also the salts in the water mean you float, not sit in the thing surrounded by water, so you are in the dark and suddenly do not feel gravity anymore.

I've been wanting to give that a try since I heard Billy Connelly talking about it. Anybody know if there's one in Cork?

Mind you, maybe being locked in a confined space with a nutcase isn't such a great idea......

There used to be a place on Douglas Street, but I think they closed.

Got a voucher for the place on baggot st from a work thing I did. As other people have said it's a relaxing and different experierence but nothing magicial. Just don't let them put on any whale or new age music while you are in there, maybe you could bring your own.

If I was doing it again thing I would have a few smokes before hand then i would say it would be fairly magicial.

the place in Cork was on douglas st and was called "cork floats"

What a coincidence - I just found out where Douglas Street is yesterday. Been down it loads of times...........just never knew it's name.

Shame the place is closed :(

    How did this go Yellum?

Did you have a good time?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Slept out for it the last time. Going to be back in Dublin again next week so I'll try and book a timeslot for it next Sunday.

Anybody used any of these recently?

Supposed to have lots of mental and cognitive health benefits if done regularly.
The sessions are not very cheap but the tanks are expensive to buy if they are good tanks,
not to mention the costs of the administration, salts, electricity, water and installation so overall good value for money.

The place the OP mentioned has options of unlimited floating for 6 months or one year
so would probably be the best option for those who are committed.

    Mod note
Sorry B4 but this thread is 12yrs old and is what we call a zombie thread.
If you want to have a general discussion on floatation tanks (they are great) please try the Fitness forum but do have a read of their forum before starting a new thread.

Cheers and sorry I have to close this but as well as being an old thread your update to it doesn't appear to be a personal issue you need advice on.
