Well, to be more exact, who's gone on either of the two new ice rinks and done some damage?

I managed to mess up my knee - but it was still worth it :D

two new ice rinks? I'm assuming that these are semi-permenant ones like the fota on ice thing? If so, wheres the other one?

Yeas, myself and the missus are heading to fota on ice but as I'm fairly handy at the old ice skating I wouldnt think I'll be damaging myself badly :D

Went out to the rds few days ago, great laugh.. my friend said the rds rink looked a bit bigger than the smithfield rink.. Only thing is tho it was kinda packed, so when u skated around you were tryna dodge everyone and the little cheeky kids that would skate out in front of you for a laugh to scare the life out of ya! Alot of accidents when i was there tho..

My god, what sorta twats do ya work with! :p I can only imagine the pleasure when ya saw them hobbling into work the day/week after and you sitting there grinning from ear to ear! :D

We went to the RDS rink in a group of 7. One of the lads wreaked of a great night before yet performed brilliantly. Another - sober as can be - fell flat, 10 minutes in, face first breaking a tooth :( He followed that medical advice to get it on ice straight away :p;)

He wants to go again! Actually, so do I :)
Does the Smithfield rink still have those really painful old skates or did they get brand new ones like the RDS?

    It is what it's.

I haven't done it at night...
    Is it better?

    It is what it's.

Note most of these rinks don't actually use real ice, but a plastic that acts like ice.

Much better, you get to fall over in the dark and break multiple limbs ;)

I went to the one in the Financial Services Centre last year. It was sorta crappy because of the slippy lino they use instead of ice.

Very hard to actually get a bit of speed up. Not sure if thats the same as the current crop.

I went to smithfield and discovered I was crap at skating, that was untill a 3 year old told me the secret before speeding away, and that secret was "keep both yer feet on da ground mista".

tis real ice in smithfield as some of it had been crushed to snow like stuff by the time we had got on the rink at 9 in the evening or so.

Went to the one in the rds when it opened , i still have the cuts on my shins from the skates , id recommend to wear an extra pair of socks
twas really good though apart from that , u wouldnt believe how tough it is ,had to really concentrate to keep it steady , maybe im just useless.....
had one spectacular fall , a girl beside me was falling so she decided to grab me to steady herself making me look like a spa and then panned out in bits on the hard ice, ouch.she managed to stay up though :(
    id say its a must:D

Only the crappy IFSC one last year was plastic, Smithfield was real ice and it is again this year and so is the rds.

I went to Smithfield last night and thought it was brilliant. Hadn't skated since I was 6 or something! Great atmosphere and people grabbing on to the nearest person to them for support... rather funny when they pulled like 10 people down with them.

Was quite proud of meself when I made it all the way around the rink without the barrier and without falling. Don't think I'll be able to do that again though... bit of a fluke me thinks!! Can't wait to go again all the same.

    Well worth going... it rocks!

There's one in Waterford, out by Beat on the ring road. There's a thread about it here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=126542
I'm hoping to go over Christmas but I'd imagine it'll be mobbed. I've only ever skated in Manchester and Toronto so I'm really looking forward to it. Although according to my sister, it's that sh1tty plastic stuff instead of ice - means it's slower and you're more likely to fall.

Its rather hard to do physically that is I was sweating very heavy by the end. (although I am not very fit)

w00t - I can skate now. It's all out of my system.
