Hello all. got a wee problem with the speed my ram is running at
    im running a
    p4 3Ghz
    asus p4c800-e delux mb
    2 matched Corsair PC3200 DDR 512MB
using a prog called cpu-z it states the frequency of each ram is 200Mhz

ere's a print out from the prog:
    Module #1

    General
    Memory type DDR-SDRAM
    Manufacturer (ID) (0000000000000000)
    Size 512 MBytes
    Max bandwidth PC3200 (200 MHz)
    Part number

    Attributes
    Number of banks 2
    Data width 64 bits
    Correction None
    Registered no
    Buffered no

    Timings table
    Frequency (MHz) 200
    CAS# 2.5
    RAS# to CAS# delay 3
    RAS# Precharge 3
    TRAS# 8

    Module #2

    General
    Memory type DDR-SDRAM
    Manufacturer (ID) (0000000000000000)
    Size 512 MBytes
    Max bandwidth PC3200 (200 MHz)
    Part number

    Attributes
    Number of banks 2
    Data width 64 bits
    Correction None
    Registered no
    Buffered no

    Timings table
    Frequency (MHz) 200
    CAS# 2.5
    RAS# to CAS# delay 3
    RAS# Precharge 3
    TRAS# 8

Here is a list of the cpu spec:
    APIC ID = 0
    CPU Name Intel Pentium 4
    Code Name Northwood
    Specification Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
    Family / Model / Stepping F 2 9
    Extended Family / Model 0 0
    Brand ID 9
    Technology 0.13 µ
Supported Instructions Sets MMX, SSE, SSE2
    CPU Clock Speed 3299.6 MHz
    Clock multiplier x 15.0
Front Side Bus Frequency 220.0 MHz
    Bus Speed 879.9 MHz
L1 Data Cache 8 KBytes, 4-way set associative, 64 Bytes line size
L1 Trace Cache 12 Kµops, 8-way set associative
L2 Cache 512 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64 Bytes line size
    L2 Speed 3299.6 MHz (Full)
    L2 Location On Chip
    L2 Data Prefetch Logic yes
    L2 Bus Width 256 bits
Why is my FSB running at 220Mhz?

Because you have an overclocked chip? I dont understand what's the prob?. CPU-z works fine for me the 200Mhz figure is just what your RAM is *supposed* to be at.

because pc3200 ram runs at 200mhz

Ye but the set-up is overclocked look at it 3Ghz at 3.3Ghz 15*220 gives 3.3Ghz.

He's prob just running the ram "by spd" or with a divider.

To clarify, Your FSB base figure is 200mhz which is quad pumped by the motherboard to give you 800FSB in total.

DDR ram - Double Data Rate (i think thats it) , ie with a 200mhz FSB (base figure) your ram would be running @ 400mhz DDR or Pc3200 which is okie dokie.

    What does "by spd" mean?

by spd, by speed. Generally is suppose to mean that the motherboard runs the ram at the rated speed. Ie Pc3200 200mhz (400mhz DDR) , Pc2700 166mhz (333 DDR).....

What COL_LOKI said. Its 200MHz but Double Data Rate (DDR) means that it transferring twice the amount of data. Effectively making it 400Mhz but Intel CPU's have quad pumping so they run at 800Mhz. Im not 100% on how exactly the quad-pumping works but, ya setups seems fine mate. Does it seem to be running slow? What OS are you running and if its not XP or Linux turn off Hyper-Threading. Get Sandra and run some checks with that.

Is hyper threading anygood? Would it be worth going to xp for it?

    I asked the same question

Soon after I got XP Pro (Only because I was able to get it really cheap). I cant really tell ya if it was worth it as i still have to do some serious stuff with the machine. But going on those benchmarks. The difference at times can be significant.

Turning off HT really improved my performance :D

    Thanks for the tip.

Close but no cigar. SPD is Serial Presence Detect. Your DIMMs have a tiny little serial ROM on them which contains very detailed information about the RAM including its rated bus speed and CAS latency. It often details manufacturer, date of fabrication, and batch number.

Fair enough :) , took for granted that SPD stood for speed.

In terms of what speed the memory runs at when set to this, is it not the same (ie Pc2700 will run @ 333mhz.... etc)?
