the elusive arabsat

    Hello,

I'd like to get some feedback on reception of Arabsat 3A.
From previous posts on this forum it seems that 80cm in
Waterford and 1M in Cork will do the job. Posts on British
forums indicate that it can be received with a reasonably sized
dish (80-1m) right up to yorkshire.

I am near Limerick and I have tried on an 80cm dish + 0.4 lnb
but had no luck. I align it to where I think 26e is; the signal
meter indicates something, and my receiver shows 12-18% on the
27.5 mbps transponders. (Though its hard to tell if am I just hitting
the 'outer boundary' of the 28e signals, which are really strong.)

So - can anyone with larger dishes (90, 1m, 1.2m etc) comment on
their *actual* experiences with arabsat, particularly near Limerick/
the west? Just want to get an idea of what type of dish would be
    needed.

    Hi kramlq.
I know you wanted local reports but here goes!!!
I get it 55% on a Humax 5300 .6db LNB and Triax 110 cm and I'm nr Antwerp. Now before that I had 25% with break up in wet weather on a 80cm dish and .7db LNB.
    Bigger is better!!! :):):)
PS May I know your interest in Arabsat?

    Guys,
    Thanks for the replies.

Greenman, I had seen your previous post about how much a 1.1 meter dish improves things - its got me thinking... :-) Incidentally, the benelux countries seem to be the best area in Europe for satellite reception.

My interest? Just that someone I know was recently in Dubai and said they had pretty interesting tv. I already have sky world for films/sport, so I suppose its just curiosity really.

I had another go today, and managed to lock onto about three transponders but the picture keeps breaking up - best I could get was 30% signal (but it was pretty foggy out today) This seems to coincide with Mr.M's experience - a 1m dish would probably be enough.

Anyway - thanks for your help [Dank u wel greenman]

Checked it out a couple of weeks back and got 19 channels with approx. 25% reception using a 80cm dish in West of Irl.

Can you be a bit more specific...sport/movies/? - when i checked it out, i couldnt see anything that would have been of major interest but then maybe i have overlooked something?

Channel 2 is well worth a look. ATM I'm watching premiership football FOC later good action movies in their original soundtrack. In general Arabsat is not bad for movies here is Channel 2's AD for the sked in english. http://www.arab2.com/radiotv/mbc2.htm
