Media Discussion board?

I suggested this sometime in the misty past but got no joy at the time so at a time of board proliferation
    I'll have another go...

I think we need a proper media board which can encompase everything from newspapers to
    billboards through radio/film/tv etc.

Now this board would be for grown up threads about the "big issues" such as the way media works and its effects be it social, economic, cultural or politcal. While there are a few boards that already carry heavyweight threads now and again I think it would be useful to gather such topics together under one roof.

Anyone else think this is a goer?

    Mike.

    I heartily endorse this event/product.

Being a bit of a media junkie, I'm all for it. Discussions on papers editorial lines, insider stuff on the radio etc. Yes, icon14.gificon14.gif from me.

I'm up for it too..... doing media in college. I think it would be a resource/ interesting area for anyone in the media to discuss issues.

I'd like to see such a board discussing the "big issues" solely as mike described it. It'd need mods that wouldn't have any problems moving the threads more relevant to television or satellite or wherever to the relevant board without apology (which obviously already gets done on boards but with the potential crossover this would be pretty important on this one). This is a little more than the usual shiney toaster board so I think it would be a goer.

    Just "Media"?
    "Media Discussion"?
    "Media Issues"?

I'd be up for modding it. Havent really gotten into the tv board (Dont watch tv atm) but I think I'd know what would suit in which board. Shouldn't it be somewhere you can discuss indept media issues. I know there are a few people on here working in the media industry, I hope to be one of them in 6 months or so.

Anyway, I put myself forward for Modding it.

I think he is talking about a media (press/journalism/publishing/marketing/pr etc...) board - which isn’t currently covered. (added: ) Saying it covered the the boards you listed would be like saying audio/video editing is covered by TV/Film.

For example I’m sure it would cover such issues as the Guardian’s media section (http://media.guardian.co.uk), from media owner ship to news of new publications to laws governing the media.

The success of such a board would depend on interest of users (or new users) – which from the above looks at least promising.

Well normally id say there isnt any discussion about these topics (one on the tv board atm), but i suppose the humanities/politics crowd are a bunch of windbags so i suppose they could talk about anything.

(ps, just cos im mod of a/v editing, doesnt mean i suggested it :P )

....okay apart from Dustaz' bucket of cold water ppl seem to think a Media Discussion board might have some potential, so what next?

Do I have to offer up a sacrifice of some description -

    Goat?

    Virgin?

    Virgin goat?

What do the big cheeses think? Assuming they've noticed....:ninja:

They will probably insist on cheese from a virgin goat, which is a bitch to do as you need to use hormones to induce the milk production.
