Herself would like to change the fireplace surround and she saw one in B&Q. I think it's this one:

Anyway, it's around the €130 mark. She went to Ballymount Fireplaces today and saw something similar for €700 (unless the assistant unwittingly included the surround & hearth as well). Is there something we need to be careful about when choosing a surround?

Dimensions & suitability. We were told we couldn't have a sood surround because we had a 11.5KW open gas fire (too much verticle heat)

(Edited because I spell like a three year old)

man, that's not a fire, that's a furnace: You sure that's the rating?

Yeah, we got it because there was only a €30 difference between that and the 9.5KW one, can't use the damn thing for long...

We have an open fire and the dimensions check out ok. Didn't look into the suitability so we'll follow up on that one. Also need to find out what we can do if it doesn't go as planned.

    Thanks for replies thus far.
