I am half thinking of coming to Mongolia as part of a graduate recruitment program, can anyone tell me if it is a dangerous country or anything about it in relation to war etc!

    Thank you!!!!!!!!!!:D

    No chance of war :)

If it has any problems, it would be those due to poverty. I was there in 1999 and there was a noticeable difficulty with what might be called "street urchins". That was in Ulan Bator, the only city of any size (and even that is pretty small). Since then, Mongolia has suffered from some particularly harsh winters that have wiped out most of the animal stock. That means the nomads have nothing to live off and so they have been flooding into the towns. It can't have had a good effect on Ulan Bator.

Huge country, extremely low density, proud history (Genghis Khan, etc.), very troubled twentieth century under Communism. Made a very good start with democracy and economic reform in the 1990s but its extreme isolation sandwiched between the giants of Russia and China counts against it.

Nice people, good horse riding :) If the graduate position is some kind of volunteer work, they certainly need help and I'm sure it would be a rewarding posting.

They even had a rather nice Internet cafe in Ulan Bator, the connection provided by satellite.
