ALL PRICES SEEM TO BE IN STERLING!!!

Damn, didnt realise that. Please note that you will currently have to do a conversion but I'll try and get it based in Euro somehow (or is that based on user preferences)?

I like the books, think they are the best of the presents, on a side note soul caliber is rated 16+ so it may not be suitable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭krattapopov

yeah books are good presents... and on another side not, get rid of the memory card for the xbox maybe?

Suggestions for children's books would be much appreciated in the suggestions thread. As would an alternative to soul caliber - is Marvel vs Capcom 2 any good?

Is the Xbox memory card of any use? I know the f*cker is hdd based but not having one I figured the memory card might be of some relevance if they're selling it?

Probly gonna have to get rid of the halo xbox bundle too, 16 pegi cert too.

As far as i can tell its simply for exchanging data between a number of X-Boxen (wtf is the plural?!) when they're too far away to network em/

I won't be able to help out in person but I'm more than willing to throw a few quid into the pot. What's the story with the Amazon list? Do I just stick items into my basket and lob in my credit card number at the end or is there something else I should do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,312 ✭✭✭mr_angry

Might go halfers with someone else on a prezzie, so I'm gonna wait til tomorrow to decide.

Yep, that's pretty much the drill. Amazon has DeVore's address (or whereever it's being delivered to, I hope DeVore has a plan about that bit) and they'll ship it off.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

    Yup, thats pretty much it!
I'm hoping the van is big enough at this stage :)

I think I'll take the TV's off the list as apparently we can get them for far cheaper in Powercity or something.

Things are a bit tight at the mo so I only boght a couple of books. I do hope to buy more or at least send some money though. When's the deadline for this?

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

To each according to their needs, from each according to their means, Puck.

As far as deadlines go, I'll deliver right up to Xmas day and beyond. I cant deliver on Xmas day itself as I'll be with my family and I don't drive and my father cant given his recent operation. If there is anything left on Xmas Eve I'll deliver all of it, that means there'll be nothing sitting waiting over xmas.

However, as someone else said here, why is this only ever done at xmas.... the way I see it, xmas isnt really a deadline as much as a milestone. I'd like to get the bulk of this drive into the hospitals etc by the 24th but if it has to be delivered in Jan, hey... santa got stuck in traffic kid, so f**kin' sue yeah??! :):)

Have you checked with amazon to see if they'll give you a discount if the goods are going to a charitable cause?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,984 ✭✭✭✭Lump

Hey did my little bit...... Being a poor-ish student I could only afford a couple of books.... Aprés christmas would have been a better time. I might order more in January..... I assume if they arrive in your house you won't hoard 15 copies of kids books ;)

    John

P.S. Great cause, good idea Dev and all concerned..... you're going straight through the pearly gates. (Heaven that is)

I had a problem at Amazon: I chose The Wheels on the Bus, and then went and added two favourite books from my own childhood - The King of Ireland's Son by Padraic Colum and Irish Fairy Tales by James Stephens. Oh, and I meant to add The Story of Ferdinand (generally known as Ferdinand the Bull), but forgot, but if you fix this up for me I'll add that too.

Anyway, when I clicked through to order them, the page said there was an order, that these items couldn't be delivered to a gift or wish list address.

Is there any way you can fix this up? I assume the problem is that these books are not on your wish list - but they're fabulous books.

OK, they're got, except for Traditional Irish Fairy Tales, which it wouldn't let me add because it's a "marketplace item", which I think means is because it was secondhand; I'd okayed it because it was sold as perfect condition, unread. Pity - it's a fabulous book, Fianna stories, stories about Finn's dogs, all kinds of good things. Oh well.

Yes, it's a pity you can't just send anything you know is good, but if Amazon let you send anything to a wish list owner someone could abuse it; stalkers sending pornography, neo-nazis sending copies of Mein Kampf or "revisionist" propaganda to Jews, etc.

    Tom/whoever...

    cracking idea...

I've noticed that The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton is on the list. Its actually one of a series of three books - the other two being "The Magic Faraway Tree" and "The folk of the Faraway Tree" if memory is working correct.

As a suggestion, I'd add those two missing books to the list...cause then I can buy you a set of all three.

Also...given that there's an announcement somewhere saying "enough game consoles already", maybe you should take the consoles off the wishlist on Amazon?

The other books were on the list but have already been purchased. BTW Tesco's are selling all three as a single hard back for €7.99.

    By the way, two points:

    1) I found that one or the other of Irish Fairy Tales (also published as Traditional Irish Fairy Tales) by James Stephens or The King of Ireland's Son by Padraic Colum was listed as unavailable, so went looking for another edition and found one; the Amazon page allowed me to add it to the list. Then I tried the other one, and found a cheaper paperback edition, and that was also added without demur.

    2) There's a facility for setting the currency to euros or another currency of your choice, if you want. Very handy.

Oh, and 3) I don't know if this is available on amazon.co.uk, but on amazon.com you can offer friends a 10% discount on the stuff you've bought (a cunning marketing ploy, considering that I cruelly deprive them of income by *lending* my favourite books, CDs, etc to friends at the moment). If you can do this with amazon.co.uk as well, we might, ahem, cut the cost to each other by doing this ;)

If anyone knows how to do this *after* having bought the stuff, do tell.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

I'll look into this but I suspect we are too late.

I *would* have set up some sort of deal or discount or something beforehand but I didnt expect anything like the response I've had.

I emailed amazon.co.uk because I couldn't find this on any page, and they said they didn't offer such a scheme. I didn't get the impression they even knew about the system, which operates on amazon.com.

Taliesin, when was the scheme suspended? I did it a week or so ago on amazon.com, recommending a hapless friend to buy Baraka and various other things; she gave in to temptation all right.

There is something odd about that wish list

When I look at it I see..........

    Jamie's Dinners by Jamie Oliver
Sex and the City Trivia Game
Festive SIL43 Garden Silhouette - 10Mm Motorised Clear Grazing Deer
    A Micowave

That's not the list. That's just a default amazon page for when you hit a bad link to a wishlist - worked last year but evidently not this year.

Here's last years list http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/registry/U63IJ1CVOO84/ I wouldn't start buying off it yet as it hasn't been updated since last december.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,109 ✭✭✭De Rebel

Silly Me. Thought it looke odd allright.

Well is the list going to be updated? I forget these things if I don't do them straignt away. And its a bit odd, everything is in sterling - is that OK? And "Game Boy Advance SP Silver (UK)" - will that work ok here?

Anyway would someone PM me when the list is updated and I'll comeback a buy a few bits.

    Cheers

Great thing to do for the kids. Have you any 'wishes' for stuff for young kids? I've got a sack of cuddly toys and suggest wooden toys for the younger ones. Will get a couple of books too.
