Have been asked to help out a family member who just moved in to a new house in Drogheda and set up her TV.

There is an aerial already on the house but when testing yesterday it didn't seem to be working that well.

Rabbits ears reception was pretty poor (RTE 1 & RTE 2 only). I was going to buy an aerial for the actic with a power supply but have a few questions

Is there anything specific I need to look out for to get the NI stations
Am I right that these will be on UHF ?

    Any help would be appreciated

    Mick

Rabbits ears are not really designed for UHF sounds like you were getting RTE1 and 2 from the Kippure (Co Wicklow) Transmitter you couldnt see TV3 and TG4 because thes ere on UHF

Most people in Drogheda get their RTE from Claremont carn (North Co Louth) all four Irish channels are on UHF from there (Channels 52-68 Vertical polorisation)
The BBC's are all on UHF as well (NB some parts of Drogheda may not be able to recioeve them)

Usually people get their BBC from Divis near Belfast (Channels 21-32 Horizontal polorisation) however in a few cases Brougher Mt (South Tyrone) Camlough (South Armagh) or Kilkeel (south Down) will give a better signal even though these are lower powered

Wherever you get your BBC's from you will almost certainly need a masthead amplifier (booster)

    Mickmc,
Depends where you are in Drogheda but most parts of the town use grid aerials with either a" B Super "or an "A Supper" mast head amplipher, the A being for the aerial in the vertical position and the B for the aerial being in the horisontal position.I have found that the best reception comes from the transmitter in Kilkeel. You can purchase any of these parts in WESCOS in the Donore rd industrial estate. Hope this helps you in some way.;)

Forgot to say that you will need a 12 volt power unit to make the masthead amp work.
