Right, those of you who are elite enough to know what it was like in carlow two years ago...what happened?
i remember getting the blurb and wondering where i'd go...cheap cheap drink promotions in scraggs or pitchers of beer for £6 in buzzes.

what's the story with the last two years?sure they have been good, but never a patch ob back then.

to be honest i agree, I remember the nights (and days) fo it , it just does not seem the same any more. Well up until may that was since i'm gone now.

Probably not as much competition between pubs anymore, that can certainely be said about the foundry anyway. Maybe the pubs are just getting lazy and realise that they dont need promotions to get some idiot to drink watered down spillage, which we seem to have an abundance of here..........

well who's the ents officer this year?
who was it two years ago? get him back!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,602 ✭✭✭ShayK1

2 years ago it was Richie D.
He was a Student and a House DJ in the edge,

Hence (IMO) all the edge promotion in the college!!!

I think its Tom this year but can't remeber he's second name might be Doyle not certain!

there are also laws against minors drinking but that doesn't seem to stop any of the student pubs serving them

it was deadly back then but I suppose we were younger too so that may be one of the reasons,
It was even better before the edge and nexus opened as everyone went foundry and it was lots of fun:)
do students still go to sheriffs?

And the foundry was free admission......

the only reason it was free was because the SU was supporting the edge so much for about 2 months, an they didn't want to lose their not so loyal customers, now tha everyone thinks the edge is crap again they dont need to let us in for free

in my opinion the foundry is never that much fun, the tower on the other hand can be great with a good band and a big crowd singing family guy and charles in charge themes............

I tend to mean both when I say the foundry,
Nah it was free in the year before too sometimes and that was before the edge:)
The foundry itself used to be brilliant on a sunday night used to play 60s/70s/80s stuff and was even better then the tower,
but alas for some strange reason they got rid of it:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,893 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

they still play 60s/70s/80s stuff on sunday nights! i was there a cupla weeks ago and they were playin "Walk like an Egyptian" and a loada ABBA songs! i thought it was crap though! i remember they used to play 60s/70s/80s in The Edge when i was in 1st year! 'twas why i stopped goin out on sunday nights! when was the last time any1 here was in the edge?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,602 ✭✭✭ShayK1

They still play The oldie tunes in the Foundry on Sundays but they play the Dance ReMix Oldie Tunes :(

I do believe that it was for the entire year and i dont care about the reason, but the fact was, the foundry was FREE. The best student year that was. Pity they wouldnt do it again.:D It almost took them to the cleaners but it was great for us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,172 ✭✭✭Don1

Imo they should pay us to go to the foundry. it's a total kip. I despise the place. I wish they'd bring back the live bands to the Tower. Even though they were not always brilliant at least they were better than the muck we have to put up with now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

If they did get a decent band, they charge us a fortune even if ya have no intention of going into the tower part.

They got rid of live bands in the Tower?
I thought that was just an incident on the last night out:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 117 ✭✭scrawnban

Free doesn't necessarily mean good, plus you're just gonna spend the extra few euro's on drink anyway, a good band is worth the €10 or whatever you spend getting into the place as long as they are good. But hey......if people want second rate entertainment that they dont have to pay for-let them have it.

Yes Yes, if they are GOOD, remember the revs, i do remember that they were piss poor. Anyways a decent dj would do me. I rather be getting drunk than be being overcharged by dinn ri. They make a profit off the drink alone never mind the cover charge.

I don't remember the revs because i knew they would be **** and didn't go, and part of the point of my first post was that the drink in the town is **** for the best part, and overpriced. Theres no point arguing anyway, nothing will change simply because it doesn't have to-the pubs are happy with charging students too much and the students don't appear to care that they are being ripped off, at least they aren't doing anything about it.

Curtis ........... The pubs in Carlow aren't any more expensive than the pubs anywhere else??

And If they were how are students supposed to make the pubs lower their prices??

I was saying that there is no point in trying to do anything because nothing can happen, and what I meant by the price comment is that the drinks on draft here taste like **** but cost as much as anywhere else......i should have made my self clearer on that matter. Drink in general everywhere costs way too much anyway but thats not carlows fault.

AND CALL ME DOGBOY(sorry but nobody's made fun of snowball in a whlie)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,602 ✭✭✭ShayK1

    ok fair enough!!
And why haven't we been taking the piss out of Snowball Mr. Dogboy???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,719 ✭✭✭Ruaidhri

    Dogboy!
prices here aint that bad :) not great but i've seen worse.
as for taste, it's a student town so slop it out to them :)

Nightclubs are ALWAYS better with live music. DJ's suck ass.
The edge ruled! it was a nicer nightclub and i'm annoyed that it's closed for thursday night's anymore! it sucks.

So how does sheriffs get away with mondays?
    Down with scraggs!

    Haha, brilliant.

There is no point arguing over it because nothing will ever be done about it.

    Students are so lazy.

one way to protest ; block the kilkenny road, stop all lorries going by

course protest for a second thing that would mean something to locals, least that way get their semi-support.

Yes I can see that plan working alright

    Its completely different!
Use to concessions been thrown at you, free entries!but when there s no competition there s no point thrown away profit!

There s also been very little comedians, hypnotists or any other kind of entertainment arod the college but it might pick up, maybe for rag week!

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 3,290 ✭✭✭TomTom

When is your rag week? early next year?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,441 ✭✭✭The_Goose

There's usually a band on, on a thurs I think unless they cant get anyone and then they have a gay ass DJ.

Fridays in tower are 21st's and Is it saturday's...yeah saturday's they usually have bands on in the tower.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 355 ✭✭Headcase

band in the tower on ball nights, otherwise dj.
edge was good when it first opened, had decent bands like Wilt and that.
foundry was free, but beer was more expensive.
Elexes and TomTom, will remember years ago in 102 Greenroad, where we lived, we'd go to the offy and take the day off college and bring the furniture into the back garden and drink for the day, now that was fun.

Sheriffs does the cheap beer thing, but it is against the law. the owner is new, so don't think he realises the implications of his actions.

but always had good times in Sheriffs.
but i still love Scraggs, no matter how crap or expensive the beer is, it has the best atmosphere in town

mmmm 102 green rd . that was fun . how i missed it . but u lot should of been there the year b4 it was much better .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,719 ✭✭✭Ruaidhri

you know thinking about it now Carlow went to the dogs when 102 was made all "clean" and new.
I think we need to retake 102 :)

Seriously though, we should arrange some kind of protest against the foundry and it's GAY ASS DJ's. Did i mention DJ's evolved from satan's cum rag...
