Well, being thoroughly sickened by the suggestion of Dutch Gold, or other such swill, I thought I'd create a thread for the true beer connoissuers on boards.

Do you go to specialist stores for your beer?
Does your beer say something like "Witbiere-biere Blanche" or equally as posh?
Do you turn your nose at those drinking lesser beers like Budweiser, or Carlsberg?
Well then, this thread is for you!

    Heineken, obviously because I'm a D4 head
Budweiser can't be classed as beer, it's made with rice :D

i dont see whats so wrong with bud, heiniken is sour!

Budweiser is a pathetic knockoff of Budvar. The yanks got it dead wrong and removed most of the flavour. Then they tried to sue the original brewers when the iron curtain came down...

And Bud, Heineken, et al. are full of horrible chemicals that make hangovers even worse.

Tried quite a few of those beers. All nice. No silly additives, so you have to drink an awful lot to get hungover. Full of lovely rich tasty flavour. And a damn sight stronger than rubbish like Carlsberg, which you don't so much buy as rent for a while. Abt Watou is good stuff, probably my favourite Belgian tipple right now. Strong enough to knock the backside off a concrete elephant, and dead tasty.

Still quite the fan of German beers though. Mmm, Ganter/Rothaus... :)

i've not heard of most of those beers up there but i was in england for the summer and went off budweiser completely.

Also enjoyed budvar and kroenburg (sp) and i like erdinger.

AW... I resent the fact that you've labeled Stella as a "newb" beer!! What the **** do you think you are? The master of fine beers?

I like most belgian beers, but the only one I'd drink consistently would be Stella. That's the type of beer I like to drink.

The others - especially Chimay are very tasty, but I just wouldn't be able to lash down 8 of them on a night on the píss, as well as the rediculous prices they cost.

    AW - You seem to have this superior attitude when it comes to;

    a) Beer
    b) Metal music or rock music in general
    c) Lord of the rings - most of your posts on this board involve quoting people's inaccuracies, and then throwing in a little  to make that person feel stupid.

Bunch of arsé if you ask me.

    edit- spelling

FinkBrau is my drink of choice as of late. Goes down easy and only costs 50c a bottle (it does come in small bottles though. Get a slab of 24 for €12 and all your drinking needs shall be catered for.

What? No mention of Delerlium Tremens?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

So, drinking beer is no use unless it gets you drunk?

    Fair enough so, Dr. Loon.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I do.

    Honestly Dr.Loon...
Get the hell off your high horse and learn to take my 'Superior' comments with a hint of sarcasm.

I quite like Stella tbh, it's a great beer, and it's what I'll drink on most nights out, because its so readily available. And that's the only reason it's labelled 'Newb' beer, because it's the most well known of Belgian Beers.

    Like I said...
Take my comments with a bit of humour, and you'll get on fine.

Yes they were. Bloody lethal it is. If you drink another beer after it all you can taste is its syrupy goodness.

Toss-up between Gulden Draak and Verbodene Vrucht. Would never say no to a Chouffe either.

That's not what I meant. If I was out on the píss I wouldn't be able to drink a load of Chimay... it gets a bit heavy on me after a while. I do regularly buy a couple when I'm sitting in. The taste is truly lovely.

    You misread/mis-understood me.

AW don't take my attack too seriously. I was in a foul humour that day.... but you shouldn't consider yourself the "Master of fine beers" as I already hold that title.

When i was in belgium last year you could get a crate of stella (24x25cl) for 7euro plus 4.50 deposit out of the supermarket, in france it costs about 8euro (no deposit) for 24 kronenbourg

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,143 ✭✭✭spongebob

Stella in Wetherspoons in London was UK0.99 for a 33CL bottle recently , about E1.45 or so. Very nice, had more than one. It costs E1 a bottle when it makes it to Tesco on special offer.

The same bottle in a boozer in Dublin costs about E5 or E6 I should think, I am too afraid to ask :(

How long would it take Boards to fill a 40FT countainer in Belgium, around a month I'd say.
