Does anyone here know what the policy is with taxes on flights, If you pay for flights which includes taxes and then you do not fly can you get this tax refunded? I remember reading something about this on the net a couple of months ago. I have a ticket to edinburgh for 12th of december that I dont think I can use. I know it costs 25e to switch names on the flight so it is not really worth trying to sell it. so i was hoping i could at least get the tax back......

I think if you cancel the ticket you are entitled to get your tax back. Usually the price of the ticket won't be refundable though. In saying that I think I remember reading somewhere that Ryanair don't refund the taxes even though they're supposed to.

AFAIK Ryanair will now refund taxes but it means writing a letter to them including your flight confirmation requesting the taxes to be refunded.

All other airlines will refund your taxes.

All airlines have to refund taxes ...you may have to battle with the likes of Ryanair but you leally are entitled to all taxes back !

OK, i just rang ryanair's customer support place and yer one on the phone said they do not refund any money that has been paid. I explained that i just wanted the tax refunded not the cost of the flights and she replied saying that Ryanair do not refund any money that has been paid. Again i explained it was the tax that i wanted refunded she said that this was non-refundable.

are they allowed to do this?

anyone know where i see find out if I am entitled to refunded tax or not?

I'm nearly 100% sure that they are legally obliged to refund your taxes, however, I know of a few travel agents where they will charge you a €30 administration fee to get the tax back - essentially making it a waste of your time an all but the most expensive of routes.

I believe Ryanair were at this a while back too...

Try the Office of Consumer Affairs or the Department of Transport for more info..
