Need help aligning satellite dish

I was down at my parent's house today putting up a satellite dish for them, but I couldn't align it to the right satellite. I have a digibox and UK FTV card for them so I am trying to pick up Astra 28.2E.

I have a signal meter and compass, but by the time I got the dish up it was getting dark and I couldn't see the needle properly to know which way to point it exactly. I managed to fix the dish to one satellite, which showed up in the digibox signal test as network ID '0001' and transport stream either '032C' or '042C' (I can't remember which). If anyone could tell me what this satellite is it would be a great help, as I would know which direction to move it in and roughly how much to move it.

Also, can someone tell me what the tilt degree should be on a dish to pick up Astra 28.2E, assuming the dish is fixed perfectly upright.

    Thanks,
    Glenn

    Hi Glenn,
Not sure on tilt degree but on my signal test I have
    Lock ID OK
    Network ID 0002
    Transport Stream 07d4
I hope this is of help. Where are you? I'm sure someone will tell you the sat. I always use a FTA receiver I find it much easier!!!. Good luck!!!

    Hey greenman,

I'm in Waterford, South-East Ireland. I've managed to align my digibox at home to the correct satellite using the meter and compass (picked it up first time), but with my own dish I'm able to stand underneath and move it easily, whereas the dish at my parent's house is on the roof in a fairly awkward spot. I have to try and find a good position for myself to stay in whilst I move the dish - taking care not to fall to my early death! :D

I have a FTA receiver card in my PC, but obviously it wouldn't be practical to the whole system down to my parent's (as they don't have a PC)! :)

dom,it in daylight and check other dishes nearby but the tilt OR dish elevation should be such that the dish face is almost vertical.

have the digibox on a fta channel ie tune it in on your own dish and check the stream id etc then just unplug and cart it round your parents.

I downloaded the SMW link to help me set my dish up should I mess up changing the LNB I currently have to a quad for sky+

If you download it, ( www.smw.se ) open the winzip file , highlight the first item on the list then, left click and go to install

What figures do I enter into the Antenna Alignment section of the SMW Link (ver.3.0)

I’m in Waterford / South Tipp (Between Clonmel and Dungarvan)

Can anyone even tell me what Longitude and Latitude I am at…

    Thanks,
    bf1

    I'd imagine that's Astra 1 (since Astra 2 gives Net ID of 0002) - tilt degree 20 - 25?
