I am at present downloading a 2.12mb file from the internet @1.06kb per sec.
It will take 30 minutes to download this file.
Why is it so slow anybody know ??

Could be bandwidth issues on the other end, rather than your end.

I have an NTL cable modem too, post the URL of the file here and I'll tell you how fast I can get it at, both from here, and from a couple of other megafast net connections I have access to..

    Thanks Spockety.
I was downloading a patch from Microsoft website.
I don't have a virus just building up the defences.
I still reckon that it is at NTL'S end.
I had virtually no internet or mail last night..
Thanks for the offer, but all seems ok now.

    Ahh. couple of things..

If you are downloading from microsoft then the possibility of it being a problem on their end in terms of bandwidth is pretty slim, I always find them lightning fast.

NTL are currently, or were as of last night, experiencing massive problems with their DNS servers. Check out the thread on SCI/TECH->Broadband about it.

Though a DNS problem wouldn't explain slow downloads, but rather, well, no downloads.. at least once the name is resolved to an IP the speed shouldn't be affected after that..

You could always wrestle the devil when it happens again and try call tech support.. but if it all goes pear shaped and you need therapy, it wasn't me..
