    Donno .......

Seems like only yesterday that putting a coax NIC in an XT clone was state of the art

I still have a 4.77 MHz clone. Use it almost every day. It controls a test system.

The ( Huge 20 Mb ) HDD gave up a couple of years ago. Couldnt find a replacement ( ST ? interface ) but just managed to get the software onto a 5.25 inch floppy so it lives but only boots from the floppy now.

Stable platform - DOS & character mode display

There must be loadsa Amstrad 1512's n'1640's floating out there somewhere...

But seriously the original IBM were built to last - the keyboards were "clicky" and seemed to be built with a base of quarter inch steel plating.. - the early ones were overclockable to 0.008 GHz by the swapping the crystal. - can you imagine trying to get another 66% of EVERY component in any modern system..

And the floppies - 0.00036GB in a Full height drive - took up two 3.5" bays.. - and you'd fit Dos and Wordstar and your project on one...

    Intel 4040 SDK

Well at least the code is still compatible ..

    ========================

    Who needed HDD's

In those days you just stuck Dos and wordstar and your project and norton on a 0.000036GB floppy and stuck it into the full height drive (twice the size of a CD rom)

there was on of those babies lying about in EE when I was workin there.

I did dig up a couple of old controllers, but that was almost a year ago now. you'll almost definatly pick up a HD though.

    "Controllers" ?

Any interest in some multifunction cards ( 384k RAM, second serial port second parallel port - you know the sort of thing )

Think I have about 20 of them boxed new :D in the shed out back

Nothing much wrong with the old kit ( load up WordPerfect 5 if you are a prof. type ) but I am glad that the daisy wheel ( "Diablo" - The Devil ) printers died.

With all respect due to Mr Sugar, the Amstrad stuff was very poor quality compared to your actual IBM PC of the time

Amstrad daisywheely with a hammer that don't work...

brings back memories - we used to fix 9 pin print heads - remember having to replace the solenoides on some of them - fiddley..

Ah the days when you had Dos, Wordperfect 5.1 , Lotus 123 and dBase - and no crashes , no conflicts and reinstalling consisted of copying files back out of the folder you made earlier..
