    There are several 2000 pro machines on the network at my mates place and for some reason they keep dropping there ip adresses and despite the fact that the setting are on automatic. The IP address has to be entered manually:mad:

    Anyone got any ideas ?

    Do they have a server in there? If so they could just use DHCP to assign the ip's

    why not just enter all the ip's manually. at least that way when its working you wont have to worry bout it.

    its not exactly the hardest thing in the world to do... :)

    "autoconfig" address in the 169.254 range are only used to comunicate with a DHCP server - other uses give unpredictable results.

    If they share an internet connection then best to get a hardware firewall with DHCP built in...

    You could setup ICS on one of the machines - but there are more plesent ways of killing time..
