Dart '999' cord failed as doors locked

FURIOUS passengers trapped in a Dart carriage because doors would not open could not believe it when the train kept going despite the emergency cord being pulled several times.

The drama unfolded on a Connolly to Greystones Dart train yesterday. It arrived in Bray about 5.40pm but passengers in one carriage could not get out because the doors remained closed.

Within minutes the train left the station bound for Greystones but one passenger pulled the emergency cord but nothing happened.

"A spokesperson for Irish Rail said last night: "We have to establish the full facts. We would be very concerned if such an incident happened."

This bit - "Within minutes the train left the station bound for Greystones but one passenger pulled the emergency cord but nothing happened." DARTs will not stop between stations (or once they have pulle doff from a station), to prevent people falling from the train. But as they say "We have to establish the full facts."
