You don't have to limit yourself to a Pace box. You can buy any type of digibox and when you get it ring Sky and they will swap over the card to the new digibox.

could I order a non sub sky + box from Uk and set it up here then( with quad LNB) of course. i should not need phone connection then?

There is no point in ordering a nonsubscription Sky+ box. You will be able to get a regular digibox much cheaper. Try ebay or buy and sell. Panasonic are regarded as the best of the regular digiboxes. You only need the phone connection if you get a free digibox from Sky.

if you buy a new box in Ireland and ring sky to get them to set up your card to work in the new box you wil lose ITV chan 4/5 and get RTE instead,do you really want to do that

how will sky know he's bought the box in Ireland?

SKY maybe rip off merchants but their not stupid, all sky boxes have a unique code that tells them where the box originated, if the guy gives them the code (which you have to do) for them to inisiate the card they will then ask for the card number & automatically switch the card to the Irish version of SKY digital,or possibly cut the card off altogether and send him and irish SKY card, which could take weeks.
