i have a open back solid state amp at the moment and i was thinking if i closed off the open back would this cut down to some degree the sterile nature of the amp...just a thought...

    what ye think?

I'm not too sure what you mean by sterile but closing up the back completely would affect the overall sound. Bass and treble would be increased or decreased (not sure which). Maybe you should just try it and see if you like it.

Yes it's more bassy and powerful when the back is covered up.

Don't expect too much. It isn't going to drastically change the tone of the amp, just some frequencies will be reflected out the front of the amp, nothing more. If the amp sounds flat replace the amp with a better amp. :)
