The Eye is from Thailand according to my DVD here.

Only others I could add are:

    Uzumaki
Bangkok Haunted (One of the same guys who directed The Eye)
    The Happiness Of The Katakuri's

I watched Audition on C4 a few weeks ago assuming it was a gory horror of some kind.
After an hour of 2 guys waffling on about wifes and stuff i fell asleep ,does anyone die or was it a different movie?

The TV guy said it had strong scenes right from the start.

    He lied :(

i liked ringu tho the footage of the video in the remake was far more surreal

I watched Audition too. It takes a long, long while for freaky things to start happening. But my god.. I was eating my breakfast the next morning and I almost felt like puking recalling the scene with the deformed thing crawling out of the bag.. Eugh. Was sickening watching it dive it's head into the milk or whatever it was being fed. Most of the rest of the film was a tad boring though.

I shop for cheap movies from dddhouse, any other sites?

I am not into the gore myself,so wouldn't watch these movies over. Its like these movies have been defined as *movies to watch alone or with buddies.,,,keep it under lock and key,,we don't want the girlfriend/kids/wife to see it now*.:)

Ring and Ring 2, has anyone seen Ring 0 ?

Kdjac, you couldn't have picked a worse time to fall asleep. FUBAR it should be called. Audition has one of the most jaw-dropping scenes I've ever seen. Brilliant stuff.
Beware of chicks with piano wire ! It was so realistic looking. The camera-shot from outside when she flings yer mans foot at the glass door is pure class

Ring 2 was my personal favourite. The bit with the mother in it made everyone in the room jump simultaneously when I watched it. *shivers just thinking about it*

Apparently they're in the process of filming a sequel to the American version, although they aren't sure whether they're gonna follow the exact same story.

Ring 0 is good for the background story of Sadako, but it's not a good horror really and it's a tad boring.

RasTa, loved it. Lovely and twisted, just to my liking. Although I'm begining to develop a fear of Japanese women, they're all psychotic. :p

Off the main subject but I've got Ring 1&2. Is it worth seeing the American version of Ring? Is there anything in it that would be considered "better" than the japanese?

There's more Hollywood-esque jumps in "The Ring" than "Ringu". "Ringu" uses more of a creeping-dread thing, I feel, that the director also used to good effect in "Dark Waters".
Story wise there are differences between "The Ring" and "Ringu" - the ending, for one:
In 'Ringu' IIRC she makes a copy of the video and passes it on to her father to save her son. in 'The Ring', to preserve family values, she passes it on to a paedophile.
. Still it's a pretty decent remake given how sh!t they tend to be and Gore Verbinski shows some promise as a director (he did "Pirates of the Caribbean" as well).

ok from a personal experience,i saw ringu first...and had seen alot of horrors..
I saw ringu in university and it was weird-did not scare me at all, just something weird...it did not catch on.
When i went to see THE RING,i thought i knew the whole story and OH i would be bored but No..they invented a new plot line around horses for example..and the scares i must say blew me out of my seat about 5 times...
YOU then again could call that not original>>>>just a few special effects thrown in to scare you.
    I loved The Ring,it's scarier(that's What i want in a horror)
    I liked Ringu,it's original...

its like you have to have the highest respect for it,a classic..but really like the film ALIEN..is it THAT Entertaining.Yes i saw alien and then saw Aliens...just like the way i say the ring films here...and exactly the same...The original was original, but if you are used to horror films..they don't scare you.
Before any ringu fan calls me a baby or no movie buff-may i say i have all the horror classics, and films going back to the 40's..
I just think The Ring(even though the story opf horses etc might be crazy)...just do not analyse...enjoy the action.
I have just ordered Ring2,,and that will be in my collection with The Ring...well...i have to have an experience of both worlds.don't i?!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

It's all well and good to say don't analyse it, but the fact is it's a remake, so you have to compare them in the end.
I havent seen The Ring, but I can't see how horses possibly tie into the story, and also the remake keeps making plays on a phsyical ring (eg the well), but the whole point of the ring is that
you have to copy and pass on the video after watching it to stay alive, and this continues on and on with each person. There is no actual ring.

    ya,be a critic;)
ya,i admit..RINGU was the first ever japanese film i saw...plus horror i ever saw in subtitles..
And perhaps if i saw it again(i've only watched once),i would value it more than The ring.
I see classic films..and they don't catch on at all..it takes time for films like that to become classics,if you know what i mean.
I will watch Ring 2,and i've heard its half as good as ringu only-but not having seen rungu in along time,,ring 2 should more than make up for it,a new scare perhaps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

I wouldn't bother with The Ring. Besides some nice cinematography and special make-up/effects it's not that great. Doesn't have the same creepy feel the original did.

like aliens and its all out war effect????>entertainment made it the best film of the series.
I have read a million opinions on sites and message boards because i was undecided which one to buy,,even though i liked THE RING better.
And every site i went to---we had prob 60% ringu,40% the ring...everybody has a different opinion, you'd be amazed.

somethings i recall from ringu that really didn't have an effect..they were timid,

the mother from THE RING was scarier turning around in slow motion,,Japanese faces don't scare me personally.
THE RING had a scary stable room way up high..imagine the child manifested itself into the screen, not about the place..i did.
THE RING had a more realistic shot of her coming out at you from the tv..it was blended in more..and she felt real.
The acting of the child i found superb in the American ring.

The guy in the RING was dumber and not in control i admit!!!
THE CAMERA shots of the tainted faces was funny i admit!!
The horse chasing out of the carriage and into the sea..why was it in the film?another critique.
The Ring had your man electrocute himself in the bath...why did the film have to show that??

Plotwise,i found when i saw ringu---i was left with tonnes of questions.THE RING even though it added things which may seem stupid..it left me with a good understanding of what went on(even if its the wrong one)..
Ring 2 should help me out+RECALL THE JAPANESE version...make my own mind up then..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

    Electrocution you say?
Is The Ring an amalgamation of Ring 1 and 2?

Hmm I didn't realise Japanese faces were designed to scare people !

P.S. Makaveli, Ring is just a remake of Ring 1 (Ringu)...nothing to do with Ring 2.

But THE RING 2 american version will be completely new material...a new approach..out in about a year---should be interesting to see what the story is.
