Indexing my film list by genre, name, etc.... Since there a quite a few films, i want to colour code them by genre, is there a way to do that in excel? Thanks

What I'd do is firstly do a sort by the genre column and then highlight a block of cells corresponding to each genre. That way you only have to choose and apply a colour once for each genre. You can choose to colour either the text or the cell itself from the toolbar menu at the top.

you can use "conditional formatting" - that will allow you to format the text in one cell depending upon the value in another cell

That's a good idea shabbyroad, but as i keep adding new films, i don't want to redo the colours over and over again. Was looking for something that would include an excel function. Something like "comedy"=red, horror="blue", etc...
