    heres my situation:

I have some money that will last me until Jan. no problem (unless something major happens). It is possible that come January i will have a job that will cover my expenses. But, maybe not, therefore i may need to look for something else.
Today I came into some money which i didnt expect.
    my conflict is this.
should i a) hold onto the money to keep me going just in case, or to make sure im covered no matter what? perhaps give me a little bit extra a week that what i have
or b) just splash out and buy some stuff ive wanted for a while, spend most or all of it in one go and enjoy the products.

If i chose a, then ill be better covered over the next few months, however, i may not get the chance to buy that stuff for quite some time!!!
if i chose b, i will get the stuff ive been after for ages, but if my job falls through or just doesnt work out, I may regret it next year....

I know the more careful thing to do is save, but do i really want to? i mean, if the job goes to plan next year, then my saving this money would have been pointless, but more to the point, i probably would have spent the money in little pieces anyway, so rather than getting a TV, i got 100 mars bars, 3 CDs, and afew newspapers (you get the point)

    what would you do??

    nice idea, a compromise

i was going to wait to buy something in the new year anyway (see if its price fell)

i might go half and half!

    cheers

Spend a bit now, but not much. Keep most of it somewhere where you won't spend it until you're out of the danger zone. Then when you're in a stable job again, you'll have some spare money about if you haven't spent it to get yourself something big as a reward (and bear in mind you mightn't get paid till a month after you begin the new job).

    Dont spend any now
wait till jan then the stuff ye wanna buy will most likely be cheaper
so its a WIN WIN situation baby! :D

Spend some of it on something worthwhile. Something that makes life easier and/or keeps you out of the pub / spending money.

I agree with victor on this one tbh.... buy something that will prevent you from spending money.

If by any chance your into videogames and in particular football games then I suggest that you purchase Pro Evolution Soccer 3 for the PS2.... It's certainly stopped me from spending any money tonight!!! :D:D:D

If I was in your position i'd probably piss it all away gradually, on stupid crap and god knows what.
Buy something significant that you've wanted for a while, that way, when the cash is gone, you'll be able to point at something and go, "thats where my money went", instead of just having a monumentous hangover and lots of coins abrading your pockets

so rather than getting a TV, i got 100 mars bars, 3 CDs, and afew newspapers (you get the point)

So you can't stay in and watch TV ?
Then again you'd probably not be able to afford the license

Hang on to some of it for a rainy day, you could also try getting some books out at the library - cheaper than a TV (and you don't have to pay for electricity...)

Some places will pay you early if you are stuck - you could ask them maybe to pay you weekly for the first month.

Why not get a job now part time xmas?

i saved up for a year so i wouldnt have to do that, last xmas was the worst ever, and alot of that was because i was working til christmas eve and then again on the 27th, i was too bolloxed to enjoy it all. now i know you may say 'aww, poor you' in a sarcastic tone, but **** that, i didnt want to, i dont have to and im not going to (im not being aggresive at you KdjaC, just anyone who tries to patronise me for not enjoying constant work).

and i did invest in some books for the time being, theres an ok 3 for 2 in easons, and dude, wheres my country is/was only €16 there too.

saving money is never pointless, it's still there for when you do decide to spend it.
