Winter operator brochures out (Voda/O2)

Just reading through the winter brochures from O2 and Voda...

O2 - they also had a 'Xmas gift ideas' brochure, it features the XDA II 'From only Eur 449' (doesn't specify upgrade criteria or any other prices though and just says 'coming soon'...)

the main O2 brochre also features some great new handsets (although no specific dates provided for availability) the Nokia 6600, Nokia 6220, Panasonic X70, Panasonic G50, Motorola V60 and their O2X1 handset and of course the XDA II...

anyone heading the Toys for Big Boys event in the RDS can get a quick hands on with the XDA II - well worth a look if you are interested in a converged (PDA/Phone) device

not much new from Voda's brochure - SonyEricsson T610 and Z600 appear (although the T610 appeared in the previous brocures hopefully it's time has finally come...) - the only other new phone of any note is the Motorola V525 - of course these are all Live! handsets so Vodafone branded and buttons / menu options provided (*cough* hijacked *cough*) to take you to the Live! portal...

Both operators are also listing the N-Gage and the Nokia 3200 (with another funny keypad)

edit - misread XDA price in brochure it says From Eur 449, not Eur 499

    Haha genius :)

The Vodafone staff offer for Xmas should be coming about soon. Last year they had the GX10, 7650 and GD87 so I am hoping they have the most recent handsets again, i.e. the T610, GX20 and 6600 :) I soooo want this phone..

:D - i don't like anyone messing with my buttons...

after seeing O2 listing the 6600 thought I'd see it listed by Voda too - but was no where to be seen - they didnt' even have it with a coming soon... also no mention of the P900 - good to see the level of Bluetooth enabled handsets increasing though...

Went to the RDS today Brian. Had a good look at one. The O2 guy told me it was going to be out in December (he thought!) and it will cost €449 on a new connection (even though you say the book has it as 499). An advantage upgrade will cost ("a good bit less than 449") and SIM free it'll be ("God! Anywhere between 6 and 7 hundred I'd say, maybe more")

Then I asked him what kind of expansion cards it would take and he was truthful and told me he wasn't sure and he'd check which he promptly did and told me SD & MMC.

Asked about the max MMC card size that the Nokia N-Gage could handle and one of the girls said she thought it was around 60 bytes!

The other great thing they had was the new NOKIA Observation camera. Now THAT'S a gadget. Only thing was, they had literally only got it and weren't sure on what it could do but gave me a brochure. Also had no idea of price on this.

<EDIT> Just checked my own brochure and it is actually 449 like he told me</EDIT>

    oops - i misread that - mine says Eur 449 too!! :o

that's interesting - was expecting the Eur 449 was going to be the min. price and it would increase depending on upgrade package / connection (brochure just says 'from only E 449') - if it's the other way around and Eur 449 is the max. on contrat that would be great :)

at the moment SIM free prices are at about Eur 850 (inc VAT) for the HTC Himalaya unit. O2 are shipping a specially branded model of this unit with their own software enhancements etc. so not sure how they will pricing SIM Free units here, PPCW.net reported on initial O2 XDA II pricings from UK and DE here...

unlike the first XDA, O2 won't be the only operator introducing it initially, the unit is appearing in many forms with the latest from Orange as the SPV 2020...

The guy I was talking to only got the device yesterday so had hardly any time to see all it could do / had - but he listed out most of the main features and differences from the first model

some more info about the XDA II in this thread...

MMC currently maxes out at 1GB but they are not in supply and have only just recently achieved this landmark - 128MB and 64MB are currently the most common with 256MB beginning to appear (The 'N-Gage Girl' was in the right direction - Nokia curenlty offer a branded one up to 64MB - so the 60 was close ;)) - the max. size the N-Gage can handle I'm not sure - but people are using (some brands of) 128MB MMC cards in their Series 60 devices with no problems

the observation cam is a bit specialised, you can get one from expansys.com currently for Stg £280 (inc VAT, ex shipping)
