After several false starts and countless rumours , the UTV story is hot again . Senior sources at BSkyB UK, last night confirmed that they are hopeful of a pre Christmas launch for UTV. The news came at the official launch of Sky+ , at the "Toys for Big Boys " show in the RDS on Thursday. Sky also celebrated signing up their 300,000 customer at the show .Watch this space!hopeful

Who made this announcement? Please dont say a highly placed source from Sky :D The person who made the announcement must have a name, did you hear it yourself or are you relaying information from elsewhere. Forgive my scepticism but this is not the first time such a thread has been posted. BTW the "official" launch of sky+ was months ago, I was there. This sounds like sky trying to drum up sales.

    Tony ,

There were several of Sky's senior people at the show , as were the whos who of Irish ASAs . All of these Sky people mentioned the UTV story . Furthermore , the guy who helped work out the deal with UTV was also there , I spoke to him . Last but not least , my official invitation from BSkyB was to the "official launch" of Sky+ and 300k subscriber , and to the RDS reception , and to Cafe en Seinne , and Tiger Becks Thai resturant , and The Davenport Hotel ................................................need I say more !

UTV may never happen on Sky here , I'm merely passing on information I received , which I tihnk would be of interest to readers @ boards.ie

does anyone have an offical contact for sky ireland other than cust service who i can maybe get to ask about this news or would it be like banging your head against a brick wall tryin to get a straight answer from them.
surely there would have been a press release by now after all when bbc were going on in april it was announced the november before hand.

    Correction ,

We were notified of the BBC ROI launch offically from Sky on March 23rd 2001 , by Mr.Kevin McGann (BSkyB). I have the press release in my hand .

No one at Sky is going to give you a straight answer until a formal press release is issued .

Have you guys got no on at Sky ROI who can help with these issues???

    Keep the faith!

O guys, this sounds like how all these threads start, "I have afriend at montrose and they said UTV is coming soon" or "I rang sky and they said UTV was coming onto the package"

Personally if I was talking to some big knob from sky I'm sure I would get his name,

No source, no name, NO UTV

Think the big knob at Sky would be happy if I gave out his name and phone number so all you guys could annoy the s**t out of him ????

    Methinks not!

at this stage it is pointless thinking about the arrival of UTV. a press release will do nicely to confirm anything. as mentioned earlier i think this is a case of Sky trying to get more subscribers

No one asked for a phone number, just a name. I'm sure he introduced himself at the show. I've no intention of annoying anyone. You also mentioned the who's who of Irish ASA's were there ,like who for instance?. I really do hope your information is correct but we have had so many similar threads before, alls I'm asking is for some identification of persons involved so I can talk to then directly. If they are sky spokespersons then I already have their phone number.

Go ahead , ring your contacts at Sky . They will confirm what I've said .

    BTW

May I be so bold as to ask where and when were you at the "official launch of Sky+ months ago" ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,341 ✭✭✭✭Tony

You still have not answered my question. To repeat, what was the name of the person who made this announcement ?

Why will you not answer this simple and straightforward question?

I see little point in further debate with you if you are simply going to repeat a previous post. If this person or persons made a comment at a public show then they would have introduced themselves to all assembled.

I think this thread should be consigned
    to the "inane UTV thread"

    Tony ,

With respect , if maybe you were a little better informed you would know of this news by now . You would also know these people in Sky to which I refer.

Furthermore , you should know that the launch of Sky + could not possibly have taken place months ago because there has only been Sky+ stock available in ROI since September this year .

Perhaps you are mistaken and you were at a Sky+ installers training seminar months ago , and NOT the launch of Sky+ , which as I have said , happened in the RDS Thursday last . Two very different things , I'm sure you would agree.

In closing , if you are in the trade , you would understand why I'm not going to and never would name such a source.

I'm sorry if I have embarresed you in braking this newest of leads in the good old UTV saga . But this is what senior UK and Irish Sky Execuitives had to say on Thursday at the RDS .

Finally , sales of Sky+ are soaring , and rightly so when a serious bit of kit is available at such a reasonable price .

one of my mates had an installer out and they told him that UTV and ch4 will be on sky before christmas.

dunno if there is true in it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 43 Satman

The Sky people I spoke to did mention CH4 , but nothing of a deal at present .

    But we are ever hopeful.

Firstly you have no referred to anyone you have simply used terms such as senior executives, big knob etc The launch of Sky + did take place months ago, sky simply decided to use their own installation company in the first few months, it is you who needs to be better informed, sky stock only became available to distributors in September, two entirely differnt things I'm sure you will agree. I certainly do know the difference between a training course and a product launch.

I am in the trade and I do not understand why you cannot name the persons who made this statement.

You have not embarressed me , perhaps you have embarressed yourself though with the childish tone of some of your comments, in fact I hope you are right as it will help my business no end. I suspect you are trying to portray yourself as someone who is "in the know" and your arguement that you will not name the source for fear of us mere mortals "annoying the sh** out of them" is laughable at best. How could we annoy them if you do not publish their phone numbers?

BTW when you say "in closing" its supposed to be your last comment!

These are not mysterious people I refer to in Sky . Senior people at Sky Ireland and those in the UK associated with ROI are but a handful , but of course you probably know this .

I see what you're trying to say Tony , you were not at the launch last week and as a result have not heard the news about UTV . lol

They seem to be mysterious to you as you do not know their names

You are correct I have not heard news about UTV, if I had I would publish it here along with the name of the source unless they specifically asked me not to publish their names which is not the case on this occasion as the comments according to you were made at a public occasion.

I dont think you do see what I am trying to say and I see no further point in continuing this discussion given your juvenile responses.

It was not a public meeting . it was a private meeting , as I have said earlier .
I'm not going to name anyone . This should not take from the accuracy of the story .
Do you think I'm making it all up ?? We will wait and see how things pan out .

Perhaps you are right, its not the first time such a thread had appeared on here claiming to be the latest scoop. The last thread that I remember claimed the source as someone who no longer works for sky, thats not to say that the poster was being insincere it was the sky source simply trying to drum up sales. I really do hope that UTV do come on before Christmas, I'll try to call Ed Sawday on Monday to see if he can clarify the position

    Hi satman
Thanks for letting us all know UTV may hit are screens soon. I cant belive how childish a certain person is going on about this subject. If it arives soon it will be worth the long wait. If it does not so what.

His name is Mark Deering, Sky Ireland, Harcourt Street, Dublin 2
You might try the 1800 number so he can pay for the privilege of you annoying the s**t out of him ....

I must say that after reading this entire thread I must agree with the points raised by Tony. I myself was once given false information from people from sky regarding UTV and CH4 and I posted it here. This information stirred up an awlful lot of people and as the case was it turned out to be untrue. From what I can gather from reading both points of view Tony is clearly looking for you to give your source, which going on the past is not an awlful lost to ask.
Satman you claimed that the announcement was made in the RDS but then you went on to say that it was a private meeting between you and all these bigshots at Sky Ireland. Are we to take from that that you are also high up in Sky, because I could not imagine all these big shots meeting any ordinary agent/installer.
As everyone here would agree we all hope that your information turns out to be correct and I for one will be the first to put my hand up an say "fair play to satman your info was spot on" but lets just wait and see.

Big agent or not , or high up in Sky or not , the meeting did happen . Lets hope its true . With reference to another post , Mark Deering was there , but sadly he has no dealings with retail Sky in Ireland , but instead deals with Sky 1 , Sky news etc. TV advertising for ROI .

Is that you in there satman?:D

Give it up trolling. There is absolutely no truth in what you are saying and you know it. Firrst you said it was announced at the official launch of Sky+ in the RDS and then you say it was a private meeting. What was the private meeting about because I doubt they'd have a big meeting about the launch of UTV.

As someone said already you are a bad troll as a good troll would have said they didn't know the persons name instead of not giving it out. :)
