Happens all year round but more so in the winter... My lips get all chapped n the skin gets kinda hard, i just peel it off on a daily basis. I havent got nasty crusty lips, they look normal. When im in the shower i rub my lips and the skin peels off. Is this normal!?

AH seemed the only place to post... didnt really seem to fit under fitness...

    Sad but true...
I do enjoy rubbing the bits of dead skin off with my finger though, there's something curiously satisfying about it.

Happens to me a lot Liam. Use Blistex - it will actually change your life.

Dont use any of that Vaseline/Lobello shíte - they just make it worse.

Blistex/Blisteez can be baught in any Supermarket/Local shop/Chemist for around €4.

    Bite, swallow, lick. Repeat.

  • Subscribers Posts: 9,716 ✭✭✭CuLT

Do it too much though and you cant ****ing eat salt.

Also, another effect of doing it too much is bleeding and one which i find particularily annoying, a dent on the inside of my upper lip.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 2,563 ✭✭✭Tazzle

Bite the dead skin, not the fúcking flesh :P

eww, biting is gross, use lip balm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,537 ✭✭✭joseph brand

You feel little piece, hanging from top lip, just asking to be nibbled. You think you are doing well, just then, you feel a 'RIIIIIIIIIP', followed by a trickle of blood, "aaahhh BO**OX"

    do we ever learn??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,730 ✭✭✭✭simu

Yeah, Labello etc are good for this kind of thing but beware, they are addictive, once you start using them you'll never be able to stop, not even in summer!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 222 ✭✭The Second

    I don't have this problem .... cause I use vaseline :D

but seriously ... stay away from labello ...

if ya wanna be really girly, use an old toothbrush to gently rub the dry skin off, just in the shower or whenever. biting will cause bleeding and scabs and yuckyness

Yuck. I'd rather use a toilet brush.

Tissue is cheaper and even less yucky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,537 ✭✭✭joseph brand

    Why 'OLD' toothbrush???

In my house old teethbrushi(plural), are brown from cleaning runner soles, the jax pot, sink, and the cats bum!

Those flavoured lip balms are addictive, like wolves in sheeps clothing.

Overuse can lead to the lips not moistening themselves and then that's it, you will need it for rest of your strawberry lipped life.

    Suckers!! :p:p:p:p

gotta agree with swampy, Blistex is the business.
and it's more medical than girly..... well kinda......

Speaking from experience, all this lip balm stuff is definately a good thing, everyone should use it.

    Why?

Because you get smooched much, much more when you do.

wonder how much slagging I'm going to get for saying that :/

/me goes off to think of the concept?

The blue tube of chapstick is the best it also has S.P.F. Which is good for the skin in the sun. I wear it all day, everyday. Keeps me lips in perfect kissable condition!;)

Try Carmex, it's really good stuff.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 359 ✭✭Macseamusa

sometimes i use Lebello, but i makes my mouth feeling like someone stuffed my mouth with engine grease..yuck. i know vaseline comes from pertroleme jelly, which is basically engine lube, but it doesnt have the same effect as lebello. although it does mean i dont really have to chew my food, it just slips down.

edit: anyone else find that? or is it just me?

    Didn't you all know...

Women can call it "lip balm" while men feel the need to call it "lip grease"....makes them feel more masculine apparently!

    Quite an old thread there.

    Handy info nugget #4533:
Ear wax can be used as lip balm.

    Handy info nugget #4534:
If you want to get rid of the head of a beer very quickly - wipe your nose and dip your finger into the foam.

    Ewww

The toothbrush thing works, actually. The reason they say "old" toothbrush is because they mean not the same one you brush your teeth with. Basically the brush has to be dry to work properly - so just get a NEW toothbrush and don't wet it! You rub off the dead skin and then apply lipbalm. And why is that gross? I think it's far worse to bite off the skin, actually
The best lipbalm I've ever used is called Lip Service and you can get it in Lush. All the petroleum based ones (Vaseline) are crap, and I don't know what the hell is in Labello but it doesn't work either

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 144 ✭✭Bright Smile

Vaeline has petroleum in it so it dries lips, as does lebello....the blistex is the business, and dont lick your lips cuz it dries them even more apparently

A bit coincidental that this thread has been brought back up when my lips are in bits but I've just looked on the net for Blistex and there's bloody hundreds of products. I bought Blistex Intensive Moisturiser today as I thought there was only one Blistex lip product. Do I have the right one (chapped, sensitive, red lips)?

    Ta.

but in all seriousness....it's a great product and you won't loose it cause it attaches to everyday objects like your bag, watch, keys etc. etc.
