DVD drive hangs pc

i recently bought a DVD for a friend and put it in her machine but it didnt work, it seemed to recognise it as a cd-rom rather than a dvd drive, Its a BTC drive the machine is a dell gxa i have given her more ram (256) upgraded the bios to the latest and installed the latest firmware for the drive but once it tries to play…

i have given her more ram (256) upgraded the bios to the latest and installed the latest firmware for the drive but once it tries to play a dvd it hangs the system. Any ideas? Its an onboard Graphics - not sure what memory does she need a graphics card or is it something else?
