What a load of bollocks. How the hell is it even scary? And The Exorcist is also laughable. These C4 polls are always total rubbish.

Robert Wise's The Haunting wasn't in the list.

    What a load of crap.

From listening to the 'celebrities they had talking I got the impression that the scariest part was that it was some benevolent tv host/nation's grandfather type figure who originally coined the phrase....it was the distortion of the catchphrase that was kinda chilling!

even if you dont find it scary you have to admit that it is a far scarier sequence than anything in any of the exorcist/omen type films, imho anyway

Aye... I watched this, and there's no way I would've put The Shining at number 1. Although I must say that right now I can't really think what I would put at number 1.

The only films that put the ****s up me recently were Dog Soldiers and 28 Days Later. Then again, I'd say I've become desensitised.

Yeah I saw it for the first time last night - wasn't too impressed to be honest.

TBH (i'm gonna be hammered for saying this) I would've put the texas chainsaw massacre higher... it's the only movie that truly frightened me in my life. Then again, I was only 8 at the time.

I'm a "100 Greatest..." sceptic and this proved it - scary moments only come in a context so watching a bunch of disembodied scenes was pretty pointless.

One programme that wasn't in the 100 which I thought should have been: Sapphire and Steel. Anyone here familiar with it? It was an extremely creepy sci-fi drama which was on ITV in the early eighties - and has recently been released on DVD. It scared the sh1te out of me when I was a kid :)

Was Jurassic Park on the list? I remember watching that in the cinema when I was 8 or so, and there were some rather suspenseful, almost scary scenes for a child.

wow, what a crock of sh!t

personally the single most horrific, disturbing scene in a movie was the "bite the curb" scene in 'American History X'. This one really left me feeling queasy, that has never, ever happened before.

well it is based on how it scared people "at the time" so you gotta take that into consideration , but no I wouldnt have put the shining at number 1... but top 10 anyway :)

I was fairly amazed by the amount of ads and dodgy tv series' that made it into the list.

They called it the '100 scary moments' but they might as well have called it 'the 100 best known horror movies & tv shows in order of reputation'.

I watched Castaway during the week for the first time and the scene where Tom Hanks knocks out one of his teeth with a rock and an Ice-Skating-Shoe was probably scarier than anything in those Top 10 movies!

That 'bite the curb' scene was more sickening than scary. Maybe they're saving it for the 100 Most Sickening Moments? Strange Days had a similar sickening scene where a rapist puts a mind-control gadget on his victim so that she can see it happen through his eyes and feel his pleasure too.

I would say that both The Exorcist and Texas Chainsaw were genuinely scary movies. Nothing else really comes close. The Shining was very stylish and a good movie but it didn't deserve to be No 1.
