    Folks,

Have any of ye here used http://www.dvdrentals.ie/ before?

If so, what are they like? Thinking of signing up, but would like to hear from others who've used them already if they're actually any good.

Are they reliable? Do they have DVDs in stock when you want them? Are they fast/slow? Any input at all appreciated :)

[edit] I know this has been asked before but no flamey flamey please. Just want to know if any more people have signed up and used them. I get the impression I'll make a list of DVDs I want and they'll be out of stock for ages and I'll be wasting money[/edit]

I posted questions on this before but for the life of me I cannot find it after a search.

Anyway I had a look at renting DVD's over the web. There are a few sites in Ireland that do it. However to get your moneys worth you would have to watch the movie the day it arrives and post it back the following day at the latest. If you plan on using the service so that you can take your time watching films it'll be a waste of money. The service costs from €19.99 per month for 1 film at a time. If you consider it'll take approx 2 days postage (them to you/you to them) and 1 day to view that means you will watch a max of 2 films per week. Thats 8 films a month max which equates to €2.50 per film which is good value. However if you watch 1 per week it'll be costing you €5 per film. Also I wonder how easy it is to get the new releases?

That's exactly my thinking. I can just picture myself making a list of 15 films, 5 of which I want right now and others I'd watch but not excited about. I'll end up with the latter and no new films.

Think I'll probably just stick with Xtravision and borrowing DVDs off friends.

I tend to rent on the spur of the moment or to celebrate payday and demand instant gratification but I'd find that interesting if I could get films that Xtravision or Chartbusters don't normally stock, like my love of old James Mason movies, or 80's brat pack movies and of course hardcore goat pr0n.

Off topic, but relevant. If you join Pigsback.com , this month you can get new releases for 2.50, mon-thurs. from Xtravision.
At the very least, they do a deal where you rent one get one free!

Xtravision do 2 movies 2 nights €6 superb offer and it works when you bring them back you will get another 2 and keep at it for at least 6 visits.

Its a well thought out marketting trap that works :)

i'm subscribed with dvdrentals.ie since almost day 1.
I'm on gold service which costs €35 a month where i get usually about 24 dvd's a month.

Havent had much bad issues with them, they usually have latest releases on dvd like any store, its their older stock(esp early 90's) which needs to expand :)

I particularly like where you could get tv series/docus on rent, do xtra-vision do this ?. My local dont have any :)

Lots of foreign lang films(the good ones! ) are also stocked.

Between posting a dvd off and waiting for another to arrive in your hand usually takes 2 days. I think its better value pricewise than the likes off xtra-vision who can charge €4 a go for a dvd rental.
