I recently got broadband in the house, and thaught will get faster speeds now.
I went to download.com to download a bit of software :p and you have a optiob to clock to this download speed that it came back with was 143kbps and i thaught it was meant to be 512???
In the status it tells me connected at 10.0Mbps?? is this right or are eircom messing around?
    :(
and the other thing is when i connected to boards or any other site i can't enter the adress in the bar it keeps on coming back saying server not found.
But when i set the homepage to google.ie
do a search for boards.ie enter via that way it does, the only thing that has been changed was the dialup to broadband, i never had any problems with dialup or going onto websites
Any ideas i have tried to reinstall the driver, disconnected cable reconnected it make no difference what so ever :(

either a slow server, or something on ur end slowing it down, contention possibly.

The 10mbit is the speed of the connection to the exchange, not that of the actual internet connection. so dont worry about that.

Try downloading something from a local ftp site e.g. heanet.ie or esat.net and see what the speeds are (should be around 50KB/sec).
Also, wrt the connection speed Windows is reporting. Are you using an Ethernet modem by any chance?

ignore the windows reported speed, as that is only the speed of the connection from the network card to the Ethernet modem, or if you have a USB modem, the speed of the connection to the exchange.

If you have a USB modem, when you are logging in with your PPPoE username and password, that should report correct speed of the connection.

also, get DUmeter, itll show you how much is being transferred.

    Hey all,

I got UTV Clicksilver installed on Tuesday morning (have to say I was very impressed - 6 working days from when I placed the order to when the modem arrived), BUT... aside from the first day (where like yourself Mac, I was gettin 150 kbps or so), last night I only got 8 kbps on a 4MB file????!!

Dublin 15 area btw ... anyone else gettin these sorta speeds with it, or am I unlucky enough to be on a badly congested exchange in which case I cant say Im too thrilled with payin double my money for only a very slight increase! :(

try leeching a large file from what is a knon fast server, e.g. try an episode off www.lando.co.uk (if it is up)
